Since i started Second Life i can't think back any memories of people using the roads, can you? everyone seems to either teleport, fly or use air ships. I don't even understand why they're there now? maybe to look at. Could Linden produce a Road map of some sort?

The roads ARE used. In fact, there's a bike rally this weekend on Sunday that will cover 10 sims.

I use them when I can. I like tooling around the northeast area. You get to meet interesting people travelling that way.

I love road trips. One of my favorite pastimes in SL is to take Ironchef's roach coach for a spin. The problems with driving in SL are:
Lag
Terrible vehicle performance in built sims.
Sim crossings
Roads are too narrow
No road maps
Lack of continuity in the layout of the roads

I was hoping LL was going to subcontract an inworld public works team. I think that would be an intruiging position for those involved. The biggest challenge would be to build an effective road system using only LL land. This team could then give feedback to LL for future sim releases as to how to effectively lay out LL land for efficient roads.

I'd be all for volunteering my time and skills to a "Second Life Highway Commission", but then I'd probably get flamed to ashes in these forums for being in favor of some "pro-government conspiracy".

I used to travel the road all the time, but have lost 3 snowmobiles and 2 cars because they sink into the road and disappear and are never returned. I do it still, but very seldom.

I fly my planes, or my Keigan (A mutl-purpose car/plane/boat/sub/hover in one) to most places. As they get stuck once in a while, but very very seldom get taken away.

The roads commission needs to take into account and plan potential escape routes from acts of e-terrorism.

As the appointed head of the Department of Simland Security, I urge the new roads commission to keep this in mind.
