Lag?

Do you get lag?
When? How often?
What exactly do you mean by lag anyway?
Sometimes I get a little lag - meaning, my ping misteriously shoots up to a full second or more, making it hard to build stuff. Last time I bothered with tracerouting, most of the lag was at some stupid sprintlink router, somewhere in america, so there's nothing I or LL can do about it.
But mostly I have zero complaints about SL performance.
I do avoid events like the plague, since they're usually boring and full of blingtards... and of course my idea of "great" performance is skewed by the fact that SL used to be FAR laggier.
Like, you couldn't even get 5 people together without it lagging.
I am always baffled by the amount of people constantly complaining about lag, and saying that LL should do something about it.
What do you want LL to do about it?
Buy you a new graphics card or a fatter pipe?
Offer sprintlink a new router?
Make SL avs as ugly and low-poly as the ones in There so they are easier to render?
Personally, I think LL should limit the amount of textures and scripts you can have, depending on how much land you own.
Also, you should NOT be able to attach a whole sim's worth of prims.
And the building tools should be more lag-tolerant. I do not want my prim to move around on its own when I am building. Ever. I am the one telling it where to go. If the server is not synched with the client, retransmit my orders to it until it gets the picture. I'm the one who knows where the prims should go, not your server.
Sometimes I wish we had an explicit Save/Load command on an object.
Edit it entirely on the client, save when you want to, load if you make a mistake.
Well, we already have the "Ctrl-Z" undo for the last one, I guess.

I get lag now and again.
I define lag as the time it takes for me to see the effect of my command/action/chat. It's almost always one of the routers between me and the sim I'm playing in. Rarely it's the sim itself, when the sim frame rate gets below 30 or so.

About the only complaint I've ever had that's relative is the client FPS, which can drop for no obvious reason. It appears this has been fixed in 1.6 with the bonus of slightly higher frame rates all the time. So, I'm a happy camper. :)

That's one source of lag. For me its more common to get lag when I'm in an area with several avitars, or in a mall that is loaded with scripted vendors and especially a lot of textures. When I teleport to a sim where the teleport area is jammed with "rent me" stalls it feels very laggy and takes a long time to catch up. I just want to fly somewhere and it can be a little jerky.

I think that "close to teleport" is NOT an "advantage" for land. For building and playing, I want land that has no teleports in the same sim or even in any adjacent sim.
