Just a bump, since we have started the move today (after much delay.)

Services on the site are being taken down sequentially as files are moved. The final moving step (the database backup and move) is going to occur in about 3 hours, once we have started this, the site will be inaccessible to prevent potential loss of data.

The status of the move is being posted on the front page (www.secondserver.net), and is being updated as each step is finished.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause. :)

Hey,

Just a public notice that over the next two days we will be doing our big server move to a new colo facility. We have the new server setup now, and are just in the process of moving and reconfiguring. If things act slower than usual, this is why.

In the last two or three hours before the complete switch, the website will become unavailible, however inworld transaction details should remain logged (but they may take additional time to show up, if they were delivered during the downtime).

The final result of this move should be that site load times should be massively improved. We now have room for the equivilent of multiple simultaneous slashdottings, in both bandwidth and server CPU utilisation.

If there are any complications or news, I'll keep it posted in this thread. :)

Heh, most of those features have been silently integrated. The remaining ones, I'm testing at the moment. Although, I'm going to finish up the server move before continuing with testing the rest.

In regards to the original topic, we are still in the process of moving the server, we only got the hardware firewall taken off our new box three days ago, and have been wrestling with the default OS install ever since (remote formatting & reinstall isnt the easiest of tasks. :)). :)

Probably going to be another few days until we have finished moving.

Yeah, I'm still copying files at the moment (worked up quite a big total), it's looking good so far, with a minor hiccup on sendmail that I need to look at (appears it could be rejecting incoming connections).

Sendmail problem worked itself out, now shutting down to move the database. :) We expect to be back up in about 4 hours, at which point - it will be time to wait for DNS changes to propagate.

We are done!

The new server is in place, and as far as I can tell, operating correctly. Of course, if you see any bugs which have arisen since the move, please let me know as soon as possible. :)

Enjoy the new much faster SecondServer.net :)
