Alts & the new continent...

I'm kinda stunned by the number of alts who just appeared buying first land in the new continent as soon as it was possible to buy first land.

I was just flying over and musta got like 3 IMs asking if i wanted to buy these 512m plots for 3.5k!

Now, if it were a true newbie, it would have taken them quite a while to understand how to get to the new continent. They wouldn't have known the price of the land up there and they wouldn't be trying to sell as soon as they had just bought it. As if this wasnt enought, the avs up there had professional skins, nice clothes and had the slang of SL. Their births dates were all within this last few days.

Well it's an extra monthly subscrition for them init?!

Alts and first land are a funny thing. Is the alt the same person with a different account, in which case they perhaps shouldn't get a crack at First Land? Or, is the alt that person's spouse or friend or something like that, and therefore a person who ought to be entitled to First Land?

I do agree it's awfully funny to see a bunch of very new people, who have magically figured out how to get to that particular place on the map, and who are trying to arbitrage some cash out of it.

The new continent is already done in? Man, I thought it'd take at least a week.

If you can be arsed, why not? Linden Labs must want people to do it. They could easily add something like first land not being able to be sold for a few months after you buy it.

Anyway you never know, they might not get what they hoped. I mean are people rushing to buy land there? It looked a bit flat and featureless to me but ideal for experimenting with your first newbie builds.

No, thank you! I spent at least 8 minutes pixel-crafting that new expression by hand, and just one view of it in the actual forum was more than enough to make my day.

i don't see why it should make a difference to ll. premium fees are premium fees and tier fees are tier fees. as long as someone's buying new accounts and all the land is being added to someone's monthly tier payments, why should they care if it's the same little group of people making money over and over again?

once those sims are covered, they can just add more with even greater tracts of first land. bet your bottom dollar that when the card house falls, they'll be taking sims down just as quickly. no tier, no sim. but that'll require land being regularly released, recovered, and unsuccessfully reauctioned so that ll ends up holding the bag. we've yet to see that happen.

Can any rather newbies (non alts please), contest to this and provide examples as to why you'd want to resell land right away?

I say, make the land so it can only be released back to Governor for a few weeks, perhaps a month. This would allow people to give back land to LL (and to other newbies through the first land) if they changed their mind, and cut down on the immediate sells.

I'm not against selling the land, but cutting newbies out of something that benefits them is just an asshole thing to do.

"But wouldn't restricting the reselling of that land also cut them out of a potential benefit?" Yes, but I think the benefit of potentialy cutting down on some of this outweighs the negative effect.

Perhaps first land should be refunded if given back to Governor?

I think the whole point of First Land is being crapped on if its just going to be bought and resold.
