are there any plans to offer public shares of LL stock? would it be seen as harmful or helpful by LL?
for instance, would LL be planning on offering 40% of ownership through stocks? allowing LL to retain the majority of ownership..
or would that be seen as a crutch that could buckle under future pressures and would be more likely to be steered cleared of?
..just wondering.

IF they did, I'd be first in line to convert my linden dollars into shares.
However, were they to do that, they would have to do a bunch of stuff they wouldn't want to; file SEC stuff, public earnings statements, plus they'd be directly answerable to 40% more people then they normally are (public companies usually act differently than private companies).
Maybe they'll do it 5-10 years down the road, but I think they like being quiet and private right now.

If they do sell stock it should come with the requirement that you're not allowed to post on the SL forums.
All we need is a bunch of people "hey I am a shareholder, so I demand you add this feature" etc etc

that would be an easy rule to have blaze. that's what shareholder meetings are officially for. actually they'd probably just say "shut up and vote your shares at the shareholder meeting" instead of banning them from the forums though. but jeez talk about feted and inner.

You mean like AWLD? $110/share to $2/share because the stockholders started choosing the direction of the company. No thanks!

Haha, yes.. owning stock gives you the right to voice your opinion in how the company is run. Unfortunately, buying stock doesn't automagically make your opinion work a damn.

i was wondering what the community would think.. and i figured it correctly. it's a love/hate reaction.. love: IF stocks were available, then any number of us would foam at the mouth while barking "BUY! BUY! BUY!" hate: it seems we're of like mind however, seeing it as a thorn that would stick in the maw of SL/LL. so, i'll agree with those who say to leave it to the Lindens. our part is creation and we have our own in-world finances to play with and make "real" money with..
