Voting Station Guidelines 6-26-03
--------------

The voting station is a great way to make money in SL!

Place a voting station at a highly visible location at your home. You can get one from any liaison.

When users click on the station, the total number of unique users having clicked is totaled up and sent on a daily basis to Linden. The voting stations with the highest votes will receive cash at the end of each day.

You can see the voting station results each day by reading the "Voting Station Results" thread posted at www.secondlife.com/Community/Forums/Events

Rules
----------
The purpose of votes stations is to allow residents to reward others for building great things or holding cool events. In order to prevent abuse of this intent, Linden requires everyone to follow these rules.

1) Only one allowed voting station per parcel of land or building site.

2) If you own multiple buildings in different areas, you may set a voting station at each separate property.

3) For a building created by multiple people (such as an apartment complex), place one voting station (typically the landowner's) at the building site. The votes from the station can be divided however you choose, and the group members can vote for the station (except the owner). However, please do not allow group members to each place their own booth at the site.

4) We recognize that some projects may be more confusing than others over what constitutes a single "building site." For the purposes of voting stations, a building site can be loosely defined as a structure and/or property with a unified purpose. Some examples:

* An apartment complex is usually one building site.
* If individual building can be separated and still fulfills the functions of the whole, it is usually considered a separate building site. Thus, a group of apartment complexes run by different people are each separate building sites, not one group building site.
* Buildings within a themed community are typically separate building sites, as they have separate functions even though they follow a common theme. (e.g. tavern, blacksmith shop, stables, etc.)
* In general, any structure comprised of multiple buildings physically connected or built into or onto one another is considered one building site.

We do make effort to handle unique situations on a case-by-case basis. If you have questions regarding the voting station guidelines, please contact a Liaison BEFORE you place your voting booth(s).

If you see vote stations that appear to be outside these rules - please report it through the Abuse option under the Help menu.

Enjoy!

Dae correct me if I am wrong here but I think they did away with the voting stations around the time that they did away with taxes.

Nooo.. see, Catherine, you've been living in this maaaaaaagical fantasy Second Life grid, where taxes don't exist, and land is so plentiful people are starting to GIVE it away.

Nope, sorry, you've gotta wake up now and come back to the real SL!

They actualy did post the results too, man what a time taker that must have been.

I miss voting booths, I have two of them at the museum which I always smile when I get an email about getting a vote. :)

(btw, I have two for show purposes, I in no way am trying to get two votes or cheat! :p)

Voting booths are nearly 1 year defunct.

Leaving them up is a waste of prims and server load.

When an unnamed Linden asked me, "Why do residents still insist on using voting booths!?" I've suggested that Linden Lab edit the actual texture "VOTE" to "remove me" or "broke" or something of the sort :)

The reason people have them is obvious, to show that the owner has been around a while and is still active.

I still see an awful lot of voters out and the damn things use fourteen prims. I'm not sure that everyone does realize that they are just relics now.

We have a voting booth outside Jade Wolf in Lusk.

Yes, they are odsolete. Yes, they take up prims.

But unless for some strange reason it becomes a no no in the TOS there will always be one outside at least one of our properties. Why? Because everytime I look at it I remember the early days of SL.

The days when there were less than 30 Sims, There were no telehubs you either flew or teleported direct to your destination. SL was truley more of a community than a world of communities.

What does all this have to do with voting booths? Most of us early players had a nightly voting route. We would often say to new people we met "Add me to your vote list and I'll add you to mine". Every night, we would fly our vote route to vote for our friends.
This had a twofold purpose, to help our friends get their cut of the voting pot and to keep in touch.
As we made our rounds, if someone was home we would stop to chat for a few minutes.
There was almost always someone hanging at Skrull's or Pete's. We saw Devlin every nite for a chat. The list goes on...

The world has changed immensely, voting booths have become relics. But the community, friendships and memories we made back then are still here and thriving.

So, to me voting booths are the reminder of what what made this game for us and why we are still here. As long as I can still pull one from my inventory, I will have one on display.

I should put one back up somewhere on my land. I'm sure I still have one in my inventory (along with jimmy hoffa and the lindberg baby which I'm sure are in there somewhere too). Only as a reminder of the "good ol' days" though... I sure as hell don't miss the vote boxes. Remember how often you'd see someone you knew stop by for about two seconds and you'd ask them what they were up to, and they'd reply "I'm doing my vote rounds." I'd always feel guilty because I was too damn lazy to ever return the favor. The only people whose voters I'd hit daily were those within camera surfing range from my house. :D

LOL, actually the old members are looking for an easter egg. Like the Lindens screw up on an update sometime and reinstate the vote booth protocol.

Imagine the secret old member societys that would pop up quickly and all the horded vote booths...hehe.

Dont mess with them!

Funny. I actually have one at my heliport :) and YES i know they do nothing. I have it out just for the nostalgic look of it. If there is any one build that defines how greatly SL has changed from what it used to be, This is definately it. I hope the Lindens dont actually tamper with them except maybe for removing the part that notifies the lindens themselves. I actually like having the thing around and I always seem to find myself in one of these two situations regarding them.

1) A newb asking what it does and I explain how its just an obsolete piece of history.

2) An oldtimer lecturing me on how they no longer work for 10 minutes at a time as i respond "DUH!"

I will not give them up. I like the character it adds to my place. I like saying "DUH!"

Seeyas :)
