A way to change my last name. When I first saw it, it looked so very different and sounded so exotic: sah-me-ahm.
A week went by and last night, in a haze of Sam Adam Cherry Wheat Ale induced lucidity, I realized..... MY LAST NAME IS "SAM I AM"!!!
Curse my n00bishness and disinclination to pop culture awareness!
Can nothing be done?

From: Cienna Samiam Can nothing be done? Well, it might be possible to talk to a Linden to see if you can have your name switched for one of the current ones, since you are relatively new, but I think they've taken the stance of "Once you pick your name, that's it." I've only seen people's last names get changed in the event of a wedding.....so amrry an oldbie. If not, you can always create an "alt" account and transfer all your loving posessions to your new one. Just think of it as paying $10 for a name change. And was nice to see you at my show. If you do have to switch, make sure you endow your friends with a new calling card.

~le sigh~ make a new account (i.e., an "alt" , log in with your old account, give all your inventory to your new avatar, mark all your land to sell to your new avatar for $0 (CAREFULLY), log in with your new account and "buy" your land, and then cancel your old account. Or keep it. Might cost a little and its a pain in the ass, but it would work. Last I knew Linden can't even fix capitalization on your first name, let alone your last name. Buster

From: Buster Peel make a new account Yes, a new account is the best way to deal with that, especially now when you are just starting out. It is the ideal time. Make sure you contact friends you have made to let them know your new name and to trade cards.

Buster's solution is one I've tried to get out of a bad name choice (geez, in TSO, you can just pay them extra and get your name changed without all that rigaramole). You don't realize a name is bad for a time until somebody comes up and pokes you with it.
But...with all this "non-transfer" stuff that content barons have made and stretched their long arms out to keep you from reselling even to yourself, you lose a lot of important stuff. Like your Morpheus for example. I have a stupid account with that thing I've kept still in the newb shirt just because I feel bad about losing that thing I spent money on. Dumb, eh?

Prokofy raises a good point, Cienna. If you've bought or been given no-transfer items, you'll want to make sure you IM the creators, explaining the situation. I've never met a creator who wasn't willing to help someone out in a similar circumstance. "No-transfer" really ought to be extended with "transfer once", in my opinion.

I'm afraid that, in regards to changing your name on the same account, you're stuck in that boat.
Doesn't that get your goat?

I want to keep my name. In fact I'm so hyped about my SL name I've considered using it in RL.

You learn to love you name, especially when it becomes less seen, and then unavailable to new players...
I wanted a new name when I was a noob, but now I am more then happy with it. I can't imagine having another name at this point.

I must admit, I have yet to see another 'Samiam'. (Not that I at all wonder why, mind you.)
