Temp Sandbox Mode?

It was suggested in a comment buried in a thread where Phil Linden made one of his announcements and apologies that maybe some kind of temp grid could be put up, a "preview" grid is what it was called, during down times.

I wonder if it would be physically possible to make a "temp sandbox mode" which would essentially be just big square spaces. You wouldn't be able to travel anywhere but you could land and practice building and save things in your inventory but the structures would automatically erase like in a sandbox. Or you could just go in and use the time to fix your appearance or clean out your inventory. You couldn't travel anywhere really but it would just be useful to spend the down time.

Would this be hard to do?

Generally, the preview grid does not allow transferring things to the "real grid.

So, that sort of defeats at least part of your purpose, I think.

Sorry.

Snicker all you want Shadow, but unless ordinary intelligent people educated in the humanities continue to fearlessly ask questions of tekkies, they become heartless asshole prima donnas that create games that are either too complicated to use or don't work or both.

*Cough*

I figured a temp mode wouldn't let you save to server but maybe it could let you save to your own hard drive and you could upload later or something. We are all trying to brainstorm on ways to have these down times be less punishing.

Snicker all you want, but your game will never have a million users with that kind of snickering.
