So, in an effort to have a political topic without Republicans being too smug or Democrats being too somber (or angry), let's speculate.

For each party (I'm assuming Cheney is a non-starter), who do you think will run, who do you want to run, who scares the bejeezus out of you?

No idea myself on the Democrat side, Lieberman could work but not a terribly exciting candidate. Edwards scares me. Hillary could be a lock. If she's more Clinton Hillary than HillaryCare Hillary, she could prove interesting. Not sure if Obama or any other rising starts would be ready by then.

Republicans: Please no Cheney. McCain would be the obvious choice, but there are issues there.. And Arnie isn't getting a consitutional amendment, even though it would be fun to consider Demolition Man a "prophetic" movie (mmmm, time for Taco Bell). Even more fuzzy on Republican rising stars.

I think the Dem's will be very conservative with their 2008 choice. So I think Jewish, Female, or black is pretty much out of the question. Maybe Hillary as VP. Everything you hear from the Dem's right now is that there is gonna be a major overhaul. Might be kneejerk reaction from the loss, but they do need to rethink the strategy they have chosen.

Cheney for health reasons will probably not be running. McCain Is a popular face for the republicans but I don't think too popular with the republican elite. After that who knows. Nobody is a real standout. I think we may see Rudi Giuliani running. If they can make sure all those bodies are deeply sunk in the Hudson.

I'd love to see a Clinton-Clinton ticket in 2008, personally. Put that up against Rudi....tough call for me. I liked Rudi as mayor...and I loved Bill as President, and I love Hillary as Senator...tough tough call.

May I just say that John McCain as President would just make me go all dreamy and Republican? :)

Sorry, guys, but this Independent Angel (God is non-partisan, no matter what Falwell says) only sees one man worthy of the 2008 Presidency. And no, it's not Hillary. :P

Hopefully Democrats are finally realizing that this centrist crap is ofr the birds and will post Hillary as their candidate. She is smart and effective just like Nancy Pelosi. We've given it a try with the bland middle-of-the-road liberals and look where it got us.

Hillary's success completely depends on her 2006 re-election. She need to hold her senate seat by a large margin for credibility. Republicans know this so expect a good fight. I will be curious to see which candidate they field.

These are my predictions.

For Dems no question it will be Hillary as the nominee with perhaps Obama as her running mate, (it would be a strong ticket)

For Repubs not sure. I know of two that will run. Gov. Pataki and Gov. Romney, I think McCain may think about trying it again, Rudy perhaps but he'd never get the nomination, Condi would be an interesting match against Hillary.

How you call Kerry middle of the road I don't know, he is the most liberal senator, in fact you never win when you put a hardcore liberal in, remember dukakis. Clinton was a moderate centrist which is why you won with him.

And remember how much you all hated Clinton. It doesn't matter who we pick, you'll hate them too. So lets just go with Hillary since she's the best choice for us.

Senator John McCain & Former Senator Max Cleland

Two brave men who I believe would think twice before putting Americans in harms way, are fiscally conservative and who I respect.

McCain would be a good choice for the Republicans, and i'd actually have to carefully consider my options before deciding which way to vote, since I really like him. He did lose a few points IMO though when he chose to support the Bush Administration after the way he was treated in 2000.

I agree Hillary is the best choice for you, because a lot of people will vote for her not for her policies but for fond memories of Bill and the fact she is a woman.

As to Clinton, I hated the things he did, his policies more or less were not that bad (besides trusting dictators like in NK).

But remember his personal feelings or anger at Bush do not outweigh who he thought would bea better president. He supported Bush because he thought he'd be a better president than Kerry, I am sure he is still pissed at Bush.

Prez Arnie -- who will get his amendment because the Repubs need a centerist movie star, and the Dems can't go against their own immigrant base.

VP Colin P. -- who will make a comeback when he steps down from Secy State and Repub foreign policy goes completely to hell. The Repubs want a black moderate military hero with foreign policy experience to go with Arnie.

On the Demo side? Who cares? The way they're going, we'll have a one-party system by 2008, especially if they're serious about Hillary Clinton. If they're bright, they'll nominate John McCaine and ask him to keep his Repub affiliation.

;)
