Well, I'm back after two days of fun. Had a lovely little storm Wednesday that brought the house to its knees.

Was in SL Wednesday, enjoying myself and had just warned a couple of people if i disappear don't worry its just a storm and I may need to shut down. Was but a few minutes after that that the entire house shook on its foundation.

I screamed and jumped out of my chair. My neice (who's staying with me for the summer) screamed too. The dogs started barking and the cats ran around like their tails were on fire.

Modem was down.. said ok.. TV gone.. ok... Electicity blinked then came back in part of the house. Half the breakers in the house tripped. Phone poofed.. (eww now that really was a pain)... then I heard this loud hissing sound.

I went into my kitchen and water was spraying everywhere. Seems the lightening blew a hole in the copper tubing that connected to the frig for the ice maker.

Well ... couldn't find a shut off valve... water shooting out by the gallons. Finally thinking (yes i do at times) I ran for some pliers and crimped the tubing shut (30 minutes trying to do that). By then I had a lake in my kitchen, was soaking wet, along with my dogs and neice all thinking its fun time in the kitchen running through the water.

To make a long story short, yesterday afternoon, finally got my phone back. Today finally got the cable connected again.
Geesh I really missed yah'll.

Moral of the story... find out where the shut off valve for the water is in your house! Save you a good soaking :)

Wow, Fey. That must have been a hell of a lightning strike! Glad you're okay.

I had a similarly bad water experience a couple of years ago. I woke up one morning and heard a strange gurgling sound. I tracked it and found a giant wet spot in the ceiling under an upstairs bathroom and down the wall. I could hear water literaly gushing inside the wall. I ran around franticly trying to find the main water shutoff valve. I found what I thought was it, cranked it all the way, and the water continued to gush even worse than before. I had to call the water department to send a truck to find my valve. When they got there the guy went straight to the valve that I thought was it in the first place. The moral of the story... when you try to shut off the water valve, make sure you turn it the right way!! lol

And I wonder who she warned that she might disappear...

When I told my husband, the first thing he said was,
"Didn't she know where the shut off valve was???"
I just hate know it alls... (Which he is about all things homeowner) Like I would know if he wasn't here...

"NO, I said, and don't criticize my FEY", I fired at him...

I am usually pretty fearless about being online while there's a thunderstorm going on outside, but last night woooooo doggy was a doozy of a storm, knocked me right offline... big badda boom, lights out for 3 seconds, back on again and my modem resets.... @#%@# mother nature! OK so it was time to get offline LOL

We've had some wicked storms in this area (NW Missouri/NE Kansas) the last few weeks. Personally I truly enjoy the darkest loudest and meanest of them barring a tornado or lighting bolt in the arse.

I'm pretty sure a flooded kitchen would turn me off to them pretty quickly though.

I'm glad to hear you're back in order and that you and your niece are alright as well as the pets. I don't know what I would do with my avie if you weren't around to make him look so damn secksay!

As far as shutting down during a storm.. get a good insured surge protector, home owners/renters insurance and play away through the storm knowing if you do get hit.. you'll have something as goodor better in a mere matter of days. :) :D

These are very sad times to be an American but where is the rage among the citizenry? Where are the flag wavers who so laud the freedoms symbolized by a flag and written by quill pens in our constitution? Why are we not rallying in the streets against this sort of attrocity? Why because we are gluttonous lazy bastards who say it won't happen to me so who cares. --Ishtar Pasteur

I had an apartment flood once because of a broken refridgerator water hose in the next apartment.

Nothing fun about it, as I recall. I took the friggin maintenance guy 3 hours to show up and turn the water off. In the meantime I was standing in the front door (about 25 feet from the fridge), where the water was about 2 inches deep, with a cookie pan, "sweeping" water out the door as fast as I could before the puddle spread all the way to my office.

Ruined several pieces of wood furniture in the living room, and on top of everything else, when I moved out of the apartment they kept my security deposit because the carpet was "stained." (Same carpet, they only replaced the padding after the flood.)

I'll never live in an apartment again (or a townhome or condo, for that matter) unless my only other option is a cardboard box or tent.
