as you know, sometime around mid-january, the new prim limits come into full effect, automatically deleting any builds that are over the build limit of the plot size.

There is a clock tower in Tan, made by one Apsinthion Protagonist. Every hour, on the hour, the bell in it rings a tune. Clicking on the clock gives the current time.

When the prim limit hits, the clock tower will be forcefully and immediately placed in Aps' inventory. This wouldn't be a problem, if Aps ever played. I have never seen the guy, and the last he was online was sometime in September.

What I am therefore proposing is constructing a NEW clock tower, with a bit more features, and maybe a modified design. I am willing to donate the land and the prims for it, and to design it myself too, if it is needed.

What I lack, however, is any sort of decent scripting knowledge. The most complex thing I've managed to nail out is a rental system for my apartment complex, but while a scripter could have done it in 5 minutes, it took be the better part of 2 days.

So, my plea is to you, fellow Second Lifers, help me preserve a true landmark of Second Life.

What I'll need:

1) A bell-ringing script that either plays the same .wav file on the hour every hour (current design), or one that rings a number of .wav files depending on what time it is (what would be neat). The bell would also rock back and forth on a joint when it "rings."

2) An analog clock, similar to what you would see on Big Ben or something, with moving hands for hours and minutes. (not on current design, but it would be nice to have)

And Aps, if you read this, let me know, I wouldn't mind just transferring your stuff over to my land to save the tower :)

Well LordFly a clock aint THAT hard to make...I reckon I can script it myself and you should be able to find some decent textures for it on tha intarweb.
You just have to rotate two prims once every minute and once every hour.
Want a seconds pointer to go with that?
I can help you, ahem, "steal" Aps's sound files if ya want. It's not like every Tan dweller doesnt have them on their hard drive as of this very moment :)

Thats actually an old script I wrote back in the day for Apsinthion. I have the bell in inventory as well. If the tower goes away mid-jan, IM me and I can put up a replacement bell (but not tower).

I also have analog clock scripts I'd be willing to give for a tower clock as well.

Thanks for the replies :)

Xylor, I may have to take you up on that offer :)

Actually, Apsinthion gets on once in a while. I'm not sure what she wants to do about the tower, but I'm sure we'll think of something. I'll call her in Oregon and see what she has in mind.

She told me she'd work it out. She just hasn't gotten around to it yet.

Sounds like an interesting project.

Minutes wouldn't be too bad (360/60 = 6 degree rotation for every minute past the hour)

Hours would be a bit more difficult (12 hours, plus movement from one position to the next during the hour) , but once you worked that out it's just a matter of finding the necessary 'll's and piecing it together.

Might try a mini one myself, just as a scripting excercise :D

Best of luck.

Just logged on this moring to see this...
Thank you all for your help. As a resident of TAN, I can tell you how lovely it is to hear that wonderful sound in our world. Lord, if you need any assistance that the non scripting among us can provide please let me know...

How about a wonderful big party and "ribbon-cutting" when its complete? It would be my pleasure to provide it for you

Fondly, Baccara :)

I can't help but think of the scene from the beginning of Back to the Future when I read this. Where the lady is asking Marty for donations to "save the clock tower!"

"I'm not dead yet ... I feel happieee!"

When beta testing ended, I was presented with a choice ... either cough up the dough to keep playing, or lose everything I had spent the previous few months creating. The clock tower was never for myself ... it was something I created FOR the people. Although it originated in Immaculate, I moved it to Tan upon opening, so it could be the landmark it was truly meant to be.

Beta ended, and although I knew I would hardly have the time to play anymore (I had to move and get a job, and I've been working like crazy ever since), I couldn't bring myself to delete my character, and more importantly, Tan Tower. I don't make much money so I couldn't buy the lifetime membership, and even though it cost more in the long run, I pay the monthly dues for ONE REASON, and that reason is the tower.

To hear your kind words and praise makes it worth it. Putting that tower together meant a lot to me, and to hear that it's appreciated, makes it mean even more.

I'm currently working on this problem, but as I understand I need about 800 sq.ft. in TAN ... if anyone has land in Tan that they would be willing to sell, let me know. This isn't for me, this is for the people ... I'm just the hunchback ;o)

p.s. I want to thank all of you who took it upon yourselves to save the tower. It really means a lot :)

Bell Tower

Asp!

I remember my first week in Beta, meeting you as you were beginning to disemble the bell tower in Immaculate to take it to Tan as the new Sim opened up; and I also remember well how you tweaked the final piece into place so that the alignment was simply perfect. It took you a long time to complete the move and reassembly; and you would not stop until each piece was in it's place perfectly.

This newbie remembered the pride and care that you took into the bell tower, and even your excitement of finding and receiving a special script once it was placed in Tan.

Not seeing you online in a long time, and fearful that the tower may turn public and be deleted; I asked Christopher Omega to create a public notification script should and if the tower went public if your account expired. You would have laughed one night as three frightened individuals literally dropped what they were doing and flew straight to Tan when the script misfired and sent us all IM's that it was public. (In other words, we have a protection there to preserve the tower in case you did not return.)

If for some reason there is not enough land or prims available in Tan; I'll offer up land in Immaculate for it.

Apsinthion and I went around Tan last night and bought up enough underwater scraps to give her the prim allotment necessary to keep the tower up. I think we even have a few prims left over ;-)

Now, as long as the per sim prim allotment feature keeps working, everything should be fine.

Thanks again for caring, Folks.
