Check this thread out by Azelda Garcia: /13/83/36673/1.html#post395914Philip suggested in his blogs that someone should create a golf course. Well maybe we would if we didn't have to pay so much for so few prims? I think it would be cool to buy more land with less prims. Or more prims and less land.

I wonder what precedents have been set that I've missed. I remember playing minigolf at Spittoonie with cat sis Fleabite. It was fun but hard to be accurate. I used to play old Jack Nicklaus games all day long just to set up courses with giant smiley faces and steep ravines ("Let's see you putt your way out of this, har har har!" , but to see this in SL would be a delight.

I've spoken with Philip about golf in Second Life, and made some test setups. I've yet to come up with something worth doing... The default FOV in here is a bit "off". It makes things look far smaller than they are. I recently made a to-scale model of a few rooms of my RL house, and they looked miniscule. Likewise, a golf green looks smaller than it is... Moreso if you have fog turned off and are not in mouselook. It would take far more than one sim to model a believable 18 holes, and if you don't want believable, stick to mini-golf. If it becomes possible (as has been talked about in other threads) to buy a island estate that uses 4 times the land with the same resources, then the aparent distance issue might be overcome without undue cost. Time, and updates, will tell. The other problem is physics. It's difficult to apply enough force to move the ball the required distance for full-scale golf, and yet get it to roll to a stop quickly, as it would in grass. Kludgy attempts to get around this, based on collision events with the ground or timers for example, aren't reliable enough to make the game enjoyable. I lost SO many golf balls, even with the best of the kludges I could come up with. Perhaps with Havok 2 this will improve, but I hate even saying that since it has been said so SO many times now. Philip, you left one of your balls in the river that flows between my plots in Celadon.
