It actually looks like a sort of fungus.
I love blueberry pancakes if they are extra light and fluffy, with a gob of maple syrup. Pancakes are the best when camping though. Same with bacon.

Puffy oven pancakes are actually the best evvarrr. Just add some fried apples to the top or the fruit of your choice and you don't have to messy up the griddle.
German Oven Pancakes
(4 servings)
* 1/2 cup all-pourpose flour * 3 eggs -- beaten * 1/2 cup milk * 2 Tablespoons butter -- melted * 1/4 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Beat all ingredients together and pour into a lightly greased 10-inch round baking dish.
Bake for 20 minutes.
Pancake will puff into big bubbles while baking. Cut into wedges and serve with a sauce of melted butter, powdered sugar and lemon juice. Garnish with your favorite seasonal fruit.

My father was the one in the house who made pancakes for us all -- mmm. For Americans: no, these aren't the same as yours, which are closer to "drop scones."

"Drop scones" you say. That sounds like the one that fell on the floor when no one was looking, and put back on the pile with the "good" pancakes.
