World of Warcraft is incredibly popular with a lot of SL players.

Yes it is - if you are looking for an excellent, free online game, you may want to check out Anarchy Online - it is currently free of subscription fees for a year, and you can download the software. It is sci-fi based, whereas Warcraft is fantasy. Check out MMORPG.com - it is an excellent site for learning about other online games.

It's an RPG(-ish) within Second Life. No real story to it as I don't think it's done yet, but it's got a leveling up system and such. Do a Find in-world under Places and it'll come up. When you tp there, click the books at the spawn point to read the notecards about it.

OMG Don't even bother with AO. The community there has to be the worst I've ever seen in any game. I played AO since early beta and quit the day after they released their second expansion. You want to see bugs. AO is full of them. The devs are horrable. There's favored groups called 'guildes' and if you're not a member of them you go nowhere. AO is a definate thumbs down. I know I'm probably helping advertise them by responding, but take it from somone that was with them since their beta days...they're no good. Oh also many many many of the simple game breaking bugs have been there since their beta days like 3 years now.

Also mmorpg.com is biased twords who pays them the most as with almost any site/mag that mentions games of any sort. The only way to know is to take advise of people who've played a certain game or to try for yourself.

On a side not for AO. The expansions are not free. They are rather costly as a matter of fact. All you get free is a very basic account which you really can't accomplish anything with. You need those expansions.... 'Notum Wars' I think 19.95 'Shadowlands' 29.95 and 'Alien Invasion' 30something (I quit when this bug fest was released). Without all three of those you do nothing in AO except mindless boring cookie cutter missions for eons. AO is also a griefers paradice!
