Hey everyone. I am Charles Tombar (in game of course, but Charles is my real name as well.) I just started playing second life yesterday. In order to play second life I have to move slowly and play on the lowest settings, I need some RAM real bad. Anyways, I am seriously thinking about forgoeing my 7 day trial so I can get some land and get to building me a house. This is like my perfect idea of a game. The ability to do whatever. I'm loving it, heck I even met some nice people and I would like to keep up that streak. I'm a nerd. Well, not really. Student of Computer Sciend and Math so yeah... You wouldn't be the first to call me a nerd. And now that I have said hey to a bunch of people that couldn't care less what the devil I say lemme hush up and see if anyone else out there has the distinct urge to post thoughts before a semi-live audience!

Um... Before you run off to blow cash on new ram an' stuff, could you post a few system specs? SL is full of people who can give you (usually) good advice on what you might need.

Oddly enough I just bought this laptop the other day. Unfortunatly it was the day after thanksgiving..so at 3PM they were slap out of RAM. And this integrated video card draws from RAM to make video RAM.. So..256 MB becomes like 190MB after 64MB is pulled for SL... So my problem becomes appearant.. But when I upgrade to 512MB of RAM the video card will start pulling 96MB for video RAM..whoever came up with an integrated video card deserves a painful death...

Just don't listen to Eins if he tries to talk you into getting "Sheep" instead of RAM.
You can never have too much RAM.
Enjoy your Second Life Charles!!

Oh. Just posted some specs I'm running 1.3 GHz processor..Win XP..and specs before hand..think that's everything that pertians..remember.I'm a nerd.LOL, though in all honesty it wouldn't be the first time I have made a mistake about something. Constantly learning things. That's one thing that excites me about SL, a GREAT excuse to practice programming.

Just one more question. What kind of video are you running with? Please don't tell us it is Intel intergrated graphics. Edit: isn't replaced with is.

It is. Intel Extreme Graphics 2 or some crap..To get a system without it would have risen my costs considerably But on the plus side SL didn't have any complaints about it..When it does the hardware check.

Intel intergrated graphics will run SL, but its a bit of a stretch. SL is VERY graphics intensive. IMHO, your next move should be get more RAM in this case.

yep.considering I can't upgrade graphics card I think it'll do fine with more RAM. It looks fine and is running now. I just gotta keep setting all the way down and move kinda slow

Ooh, on my laptop I have Intel Exteme Graphics too. It's crap. If you really get involved with SL the way I did, you'll do what I did -- buy a 2nd computer just for SL.
