I am in NO WAY leaving SL, just looking around and comparing the two. I haven't gotten in the game yet, but what are you thoughts on the game?

I tried There when SL was in beta. I am not usually one to complain about negative experiences, however, the first several interactions I had with people in There were less than favorable. I can't say with 100% certainty that the individuals I was dealing with were kids, but it sure seemed that way.

I played There for a few months, about a year ago. Some things in There were nice -- the vehicles were very well done (I loved hoverboarding!), the dogs were neat, and the events window was a little easier to use. You could also try clothing on before purchasing it. (SL really needs that ability!) On the downside, it was much harder to create things in There, mostly because of the approval process every single item went through. Customization of one's avatar could get expensive as well, since it required purchasing new items for all the bits you wanted to change.

I made quite a few friends in There, but like Juro said, the novelty wore off quickly. I find SL a lot more compelling overall, mainly because one's ability to create appears almost unrestricted.

HAHAHA... that's pretty diplomatic. I agree.

I was in there for about five days before starting my Second Life. I must say that it was an overall "meh" experience and not terribly creative or enlightening, so that's why I still count SL as my 1st online world. It's kinda like looking at what you think is a deep ocean and finding out you hit the bottom with your knees still above water. There are certainly some aspects of There which I'd like to see included and rolled into SL. They'd include:

-the smoother responsive motion, just like a liquid feel, which 1.6 seems to be getting good at

-seeing people type live in chat bubbles instead of having to wait for whole sentences to be pounded out and the Enter key hit

-vehicles -- this has been mentioned by others before, about how smooth they respond

I'm a very strong believer in making informed comparisons, so the other day, I tried ActiveWorlds to see what that was all about.

Needless to say, I'm still here. SL is unique. :D

In There ... I was famous for spinning in circles in place.

It's not as much fun here. :(

In there, my little feets would make a step-step-step sound, and they would actually lift off the ground as I turned. Here, I just spin in circles silently.

Where is the fun in that? I mean, that can't annoy the piss outta anyone, now can it? :D

Well it was fun, someone named lillie lent me a hover board, hover craft, a dune buggie thing, and a paintball gun. I went to a place where i rode a bike around a track and then found a paintball a little away from there. She lent me the paintball gun and 200 bucks to play, it was fun. The only thing bad i see so far is that it costs to play paintball. Not sure how much you get for signing up, but trials start with 0, which sucks. I named my person after a cool name i saw in SL, cormac, which was about the only name i could think of that wasn't taken.

Meh, I LOVED the huge world and awesome vistas and places. I loved how expansive it all was... but the people? Eh. And not much to do, really. I voice chatted with a few people... AWESOME voice chat; the faces move realistically and everything. It's all there, but the people I voice chatted with? Very rude. Either they were kids, or fully grown adults who have yet to hit puberty. They made some anti-semetic comments and left after I didn't get to angry.

Don't mention you're from SL. I did a trial for it once, and when I told them I was from SL, I got gangmobbed by thirteen year-olds with broken capslocks keys.

I never did try out There, and now I remember why.

I have to go through too much trouble to download it.

Any site that denies my downloading of a game based on my browser preference can't be that good. ^_^
If I prefer to not use IE, offer me a registration link anyway, right? :)

Of course, I could sit there, click the "Trial" link and slam my escape key as soon as I do that to get a download link, but the fact still remains: I, and any other Windows user that doesn't use Internet Explorer for our day to day browsing, no matter what level this is, should not be inconvenienced by stupid* web design.

(* Ask me, and I might tell you one on one why I went as far as to call it "stupid".)

...
I caved.
I got it to download, started up my anti-virus' web shield, and connected to their site to run registration.

There is so... counter-intuitive that it's not even funny.

WSAD for life, durnit. WSAD.
Give me this chat bar, my daily saving grace, as I call you an idiot, then make my comment look saccharin sweet instead.

I do envy them their lack of Tringo, however. :P

what are you thoughts on the game?

I installed and played There one time we had extended downtime in SL.

I kept crashing and overall did not find it to my liking. I never went back There.

Oh that sums it up very well. The main thing that smacks me in the face when I go back to visit are the kidlets, it's hard to find an adult to talk to sometimes.
