I was as paranoid as anyone about how the grid would hold up last night - quite skeptical - but I must admit, I was thoroughly impressed! The tweaks done to the teleportation system this week have really worked wonders, if one can port with no problem while close to 3900 users are using the grid.

In addition to that, consider these facts:

(1) The previous record for simultaneously log ins was ~2500 users. Last night, we got close to 3900 users; well over 1300 more users than ever before!

(2) That's over 150% more than the previous record, and even higher than typical daily peak usage.

(3) Linden Lab has room for growth while they continue to focus on stability and scalibility.

Color me impressed! Great work, Linden Lab. We're quick to call you on it when you've made mistakes (*cough*1.5*cough*), so its only fair to praise you for work well done. Next time, let's have everyone rezzing cubes - or even better, advanced cut physical torii - non-stop during the stress test! ;-)

Regards,

-Flip

The highest I saw was 3869, as I recall, the 69 part stuck in mind.

I was impressed - I was in a sim that is known for it's lag and at one point we had 37 ppl there, crashing point for that sim has been 40 ppl.

Ppl could still dance, move and shop. And OMG they were able to TP in and away.

It was nice and fun. Glad I could help add to the numbers online.

Great work !! :)

What impressed me most was that after that, I was able to teleport home.. with 12 attachments still on! Whoa!

(When they said stress test, we took 'em seriously. It was a high-prim blingfest for us!)

And the server didn't crash, only lagged a weeeeee bit! This was a great idea, because we didn't just stress logins, we stressed the servers too!

Sounds like it went well. My only thought on it, however, is if people were paranoid or extra careful, just standing around chatting for instance, was the overall effect not much more than having the previous max of people doing what they normally do? Did the effect of knowing that the grid was going to be packed out make any difference to what people who were in-world actually did?

I wonder if LL have any statistics on the extra load itself on the asset server, for instance, that would give a better indication of what sort of magnitude higher load the grid had to deal with during the log-o-thon. After all I'd suspect that it's not just a sheer number of people in-world kind of thing, it's more what they were doing and how that translated to volume of queries on things like the asset server that's important. If people weren't building, or moving around much, or opening and rezzing from their inventories, that could have a big effect on the extra load that was being caused.

It's a shame it was at such an awkward time for many in Europe, although totally understandable. If it had been on a Saturday night I could probably have joined in the fun, but not on a Sunday night (which equates to very early Monday morning) for us.

While impressed with the performance, I have to admit falling over 1000 short of the 5000 goal has me rethinking how many unique players there are. A shame we didn't reach 5000.

I am curious as to how many users actually logged in during the total period. Not that were in world at one time but total different users that logged in.

As an example, I was logged in from 7:00 till about 7:40, then I logged out for the evening. So if someone else logged in during that time, the total number in world didn't change but it was a 1 up for the login.

and I was one of the ones that just stood around, but I was on a laggy sim. The sim did fine and I didnt experience much lag.

Yeah, very good question.

I logged in two minutes after the posted start time and stayed for the duration. It's great how problem free things were. Good job, LL!!!

From what I have heard from my European friends, perhaps that extra thousand missing was them.

3:00 AM on the Sunday /Monday cusp is indeed crazy.

As a side note, I am curious if *anyone* experienced difficulties due to the load.

The only thing I noticed was that my location marker kept dispearing all night, every time I flew over a sim border. But that seems unrelated to the asset server so I dont know.

I had no problems, but I spent all night on azure islands. It was remarkably smooth, with a ton of people on. It's no fun we didnt get to 5k, and the time was kind of akward for my work schedule, but it was a good time regardless.

Yay!! Congratulations Lindens!!! *HUGS* :D

Also yes, I think the other 1000 could have been reached if we had been able to have more Euro players on, as well as if everyone had logged in and stayed in the whole time. I know a lot of people that stayed just over the 30 mins and then logged out.

What fun, what fun!

Did anyone else notice the New Year's Eve/Blockparty vibe? And I saw Lindens I didn't even know existed. :) How much fun is that?

Most of the people to whom I spoke had few or no problems at all. Thanks LL and Lindens for your efforts and for your over-time. :D

Everything went fairly well for me too. TP's went down for me about 5 mins before the event ended, I had been there for the duration. So not too shabby, and a quick relog fixed that.

I didn't have any problems at all. I TP'd, uploaded textures, sent inventory to people, flew over heavily populated areas, hung out by the log-a-thon meter for a while, used return objects by owner while doing garbage patrol in Aqua, went bowling, and didn't experience a single glitch in the three hours I was online. Bravo!

I think the timing of the log-a-thon had alot to do with that. The times were not uber-friendly to anyone who had to be up relatively early for work if you were on the east coast and was only time friendly to european insomniacs
