How about having 2 or 3 servers run the Olde Londen "city" simulator after the Peter Pan project is completed? Charge 2-3 times the land tier for land there. I'd like to see that city continue, but increase the prim limits so that all of the beautiful shops and buildings can actually be occupied by folks. Make it a true City Sim! :)

Strict zoning would be required to keep things in period or theme. But otherwise I like the idea of getting that sim occupied. Might be necessary to do something to keep people motivated to stay in theme.

Good idea, but I'd suggest thinking ahead of the lag and some ways of preventing it...

Currently the Nova Albiano(sp) city sims can get pretty laggy. My guessing is this is from a couple of things, like scripts, prims, lights, etc. The usual.

Maybe to avoid this somewhat, is have a dedicated builder build the actual buildings, then allow people to rent the space.

This will allow the builders of the buildings to have some pre-control over the look and cut down on things like scripted walls, or over-use of prims.

And I agree, strict zoning and general keep-in-theme would be needed.

Not only to mention, a type of roleplaying that comes with "being in character". So, "strict speaking". Few things ruin a Dungeons & Dragons game quicker than -- well, mentioning Cheetos & Mountain Dew. ;) Or, if you're already a character, then another chara stacked on top of your current av.

It's a strange dichotomy, because crowded cities would be a nice diversity and contrast to the lonely wilderness, but as Oz pointed out, packing in so many resources slows things down. For example, I really like Midnight City but my compy struggles to load everything.

Hank brings up a good point of occupation: I was wondering why I couldn't go into more buildings. And apart from Mouselook, there should be a more easily adjustible cam mode that allows one to navigate through low-ceilinged builings nicely.

Wait! This gives me an idea!

Is anyone interested in a dictionary-cum-escort service in SL? I could come bring you a definition of words you don't know and shag you while I'm there. Or it could be a sort of club, with the bonus of eductational overtones.

Any investors?

*supports Kris' subliminal education program*

I had a simular idea, have a strip club, that has strippers that teach you while they're stripping. I.e. "Hey there big boy, did you know the maximum size a prim can be stretched is 10.0 on all vectors?", "Oh look how bouncy they are! If you set a prims material type to rubber, it'll bounce more!" etc.

Sorry, off topic there.

You could also limit how many objects people are allowed in rented spaces.

And also have a police man walking around and anyone not talking in character gets thrown in the polkey, or whatever they called it back then.

they would have been thrown in "gaol" in Newgate Prison.

not that the bobbies would live very long trying to lock people up for not talking in an embarassingly inaccurate fake Mary Poppins accent. shine yer shoes guvna? oim a proper lidy oi am. :D

If we all went in on 4 sims, it could be done. Have the center intersection of all 4 sims (use up 65536 sqm of land centered around that point), we'd be able to use 3 times the normal number of prims and have 3 times the processing power to run the city. The extra sim's worth of land and processing power would be for coutntry-side land in the remaining 196608 sqm of land.

Where can we get 4 sims worth of mainland? Would it need to be PG or Mature? Combination PG/Mature?

I'm running MegaTower right now, but would love to convert that to something like a real city. And the land is on a 4 corners region, but water and roads go through it.
