Steal this idea!

I think it would be cool to have freebie vendors at various shops and locations. Each location would have different stuff and an info dispensor with a list of all locations with landmarks. It would be a cool way for new users to get some nice free stuff and also find out where stores and things are. If someone wants to take the initiative on it I'll happily host them in my stores with some freebies and I imagine tons of other people would too. Don't want to step on the toes of people who've made some really great newbie dollar stores though. Anyone have thoughts on the idea?

Great Idea, I mean honestly, I run into alot of newbies that want to look good but just dont have the money to do so, I would love a place to direct them to, which I usually direct them to GNU, but maybe we can add a more variety of fashion to a newbies collection?

I'd certianly offer a few freebies as well; although I don't yet have a place of my own to host a vendor.

Before I had my connection problems I was just about to launch The Store Network. Even though I'm back I haven't gotten around to finishing it but with a little work it won't be too difficult - basically they're advert boards for stores, the can be hosted in a network. Adverts rotate on them, so it can support any number. It was all going to be free to advertise.

Regarding free item vendors, well again, I have something that I could adapt to this. If anybody wants to get together on this, let me know.

Excelllent Moopf! I think it'll be a lot of fun for new people to follow the free item vendor trail. They'll learn more about the lay of the land and get a lot of good free stuff for their trouble I'll be happy to put one at each of my stores with a few goodies in them. If each one has different stuff and only a few things in each then it won't compete with those who've gone out of their way to collect free stuff in one place. This'll just be another way for them to get the freebies

Well The Store Network would be seperate from this really - I hope to have that finished and properly launched within a couple of weeks.

Regarding the vendor, if people want a freebie vendor then I'll gladly put one together that you can come and pick up (for free of course), won't take me long at all to put one together. So yay or nay's on a postcard please

I'll gladly host one in my store, and the GNU Wave Architects store will host one as well. I also have lots of things I'll donate as freebies.

I have free 4 prim vendors that are easy to set up and use, and fully modifiable, if they're needed. (Made by Kalleb Underthorn, not myself.)

I think for the vendor should be very simple but have a unique look so people can recognize them at a glance, and should also have an info dispensor built in for a notecard listing the participating locations. I'd be happy to do some custom textures for it. The only pain in the ass part will be keeping the notecards updated. Any volunteers?

I think it won't be too hard to manage actually. There should be instructions in the notecard about how to participate. The vendors can be made copyable (not a problem since everything in them is free anyway). When someone joins in and adds a new vendor location the notecard would instruct them to append their name to the location list notecard. I wish we had more group slots! We could have a freebie vendor group that's open enrollment so the new person could simply IM the group and let everyone know there's a new notecard to replace the old one. Is there any way to distribute an item to all members of a group at once without using calling cards?

OK, I've produced a freebie vendor but it's not branded in any way - how do you want to do this?

Regarding the notecards - not a problem. I can set the vendors up so that when they're clicked to retrieve the notecard they just email a central object that actually dishes the notecard out to the person. So, there will only be one place to keep up to date And I don't mind doing that as it'll hardly take long.

This means we don't need any groups or anything really. Although, I will make the vendors so that the scripts can be updated should that need to happen in the future.

Excellent Ferran I was going to try and get the vendor done today but didn't quite get to it. Should be up and running in the next few days though.

Will these vendors use email/xml etc and all have the same items? That would be cool.
