<tongue_in_cheek> I know it comes as a complete shock, but the media has been blasting Syria again! I know we're all tired about hearing things like the assasination of Lebanon's former Prime Minister, funding terrorism and suicide bombers, allowing insurgents into Iraq via its borders, harboring former Bathe party leaders, etc etc... so... I thought I'd start a thread so we can express the good things about Syria! I'll start! - Syria is roughly triangular. Triangles are fun shapes! - Syria borders the Mediterranean Sea ... so does Italy! - Syria is easy to spell! - "Assyria" is mentioned in Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail! - Syria has the letter "y" in it, so you know it's cool! </tongue_in_cheek>

Damascus has a booming urban middle class which is revitalizing ancient core-city buildings into swanky B&Bs, restaurants and pubs.

It is easy to find work there. There are plenty of openings at the homicide bomber office.

Syrian people are extremely friendly and accomodating. They won't judge you based on your corrupt leaders if you extend them the same courtesy.
The history in Syria is amazing. Because Islam forbids the depiction of living beings, you will find in Syria as with many other Islamic cultures an amazing demonstration of architecture.
The culture is even more amazing. People will invite you into their houses everywhere you go. I prefer to take a backpack and head out for the day so taking advantage of this hospitality is a nice benefit.
Things are a bit tense there now but I highly recommend making the trip across the border if you can. I entered via Turkey and had no problems getting a visa at the border.
Syria is beautiful.

Syria is beautiful. That's really touching, man. I never realized you were so well traveled. Does Big Brother know about your Middle East travels? Anyway, you make a great point here. I just hope there are enough Syrian immigrants around the world to repopulate the country once we've bombed it into a fine powder. -Kiamat Dusk

Not only does Big Brother know about my Middle East travels, he also pays for a lot of it. If you only knew. To be honest, I was never paid by the government to travel to Syria. I was paid to travel to Turkey and Syria was a personally funded trip.
