Ok lets say I own a lot any lot large small it doesn't matter. I want to hold a party, a game, a sing a long. How am I going to let ppl know there is something going on, on my lot? Win a bid with RL$ on Ebay. Yeah right, only those who can afford to dish out even more money will win those bids. How is anyone going to get any dwell on thier land now? Waits for the scripted spam oh joy.

No, no.... Not "Events" - "Top Picks"!

Catherine -
I think you have misunderstood. The "Events" listings aren't going anywhere! They're still gonna be there, same as always.
If they were going away, I would understand you being really upset - so would I!
But its only the "Top Picks" section that's changing. Its that one tab in your "Find" window - and from what I can tell, not many people are using it anyways. That's the ONLY thing that's changing to "Featured" and is being auctioned off, according to the LL announcements.
Take care,

I don't think they banned non-education events, just support for them. You are still free to list any event to draw people to your land.
Of course, who is going to go to a club where the prize is only L$25 or whatever the owner thinks he/she can make back in dwell.
Oddly enough, the dwell payments should increase, but it will be artificial, as the same pool will just be split among a lesser number of land owners who can still attract people with their new libraries and lecture halls.

Real Life & Psychology...
01-11-2005 00:57
Hey folks,
I think the last couple of posts reveal one of the reasons why LL may be doing this change to event-support:
There's this attitude right now that people should be PAID for exploring the world and having encounters with others (events, clubs, etc)...
But voluntarily exploring and interacting is the whole point of SecondLife in the first-place! (pardon the pun)
I think its a dangerous trend / mindset - that people have been lulled into this sense of expectancy/entitlement to money, wherever they go. But the money is NOT supposed to be the motivating factor, folks! Money is supposed to be an enabler that helps you have new experiences and make new things.
It may be painful, but my big hope (in all of these changes that LL is implementing) is that people's mindset is changed - and the folks who enjoy going to events and the effort behind them will choose to pay/reward the folks that host them & make them happen.
After all, you expect to pay when you go to events in RL, right? And you expect to pay for land and objects in SL, right? So why are events a special case not worth paying for?
Take care,

Cat, I would have been mad too had I read it that way.
Yet, knowing that its just the featured spots that are auctioned off is still yet just as bad that means people have to pay RL money to advertise a inworld spot on the featured Section to get DWELL/CUSTOMERS/ and ADVERTISEMENT. (All things which are gamed enough as it is without the Lindens supporting it by offering it to people who have the "MOST RL MONEY".
Sorry that alone is a Crock of shit in itself and here I call Alby Greedy...geesh.
All I can say is I want a Handle seat on the Hand Basket so I can see it happening...
