For you car nuts...

I just bought my new toy and it rocks. I installed the Revo ECU software upgrade for my 1.8T engine. It is amazing how much more power it allows the engine to produce! The installer (Griffin Motorwerke) said the figures are upped to: 212hp/265lb-ft, but that torque figure sounds a little high to me. *shrugs*

Anyway.. if you have a 1.8T engine.. put this on your shopping list - it's worth it. Of course, my gas mileage stinks now, because my right foot is out of control. ;)

Is this for an A4, or what?

And yeah, that torque seems a mite bit high. Now, it's not a diesel, is it? :p

ya.. for an A4, but the 1.8T engine is also used in the Golf, Jetta, Beetle, Passat, and the TT.

No diesel.. we can't get them anymore in CA - not until the new low-sulfur formula arrives. :(

Was that on a dyno or at the flywheel? I imagine the Quattro drivetrain loses a lot of power by the time it gets to the wheels. Either way, it's impressive considering it's coming from 170hp. Also, how was lag affected?

It has been speculated that VW/Audi under-rates the 1.8T on some models so it looks less favorable versus their VR6/V6 offerings.

I never got around to chipping my Jetta when I had it.

Just bear in mind that if you do this, you may blow your diverter valve (easy and cheap to replace) and some dealerships are real hardasses about chipped 1.8T engines.

When I scrape some crazy money together, I will finally bring my baby (91 Talon AWD) to the local AWD dyno. w00t!

I had my stock diverter valve replaced with a stronger unit when I had the chip upgrade done. When I did reliability research for the chip upgrades, the stock diverter valve problem came up over and over again.

Also, I waited until my car was out of warranty and I have a good relationship with my service manager - they don't suggest you chip it (obviously), but they are cool about it - after your warranty period has expired.

Milo.. not sure where the figures are calculated - but I figure its at the flywheel. The lag was drastically reduced. I think that's my favorite part of the chip, the engine feels 'on' all the time now.
