Ok, can someone explain to me how weapons and health/damage work? What about when someone creates a new weapon, how is it determined what does what damage/reload time, etc.?

Whatever the creator decides.

Hmm... so can just make a wepoan that does max damage and no reload time with no ammo consumption and then kill everyone with it? I don't think that makes much sense...
I am VERY new here, help correct me if I misunderstood the combat system. |

Just FYI, PLEASE don't run around shooting everyone you see in sight, no one will appreciate it. You can shoot other players in designated areas (you should ask someone else where they are since I don't even own a gun).

There is no combat system SL is not a combat game. The weapon power and strength is set by the creator and no you can't just arbitrarily go around killing everyone because 90% of the land in SL is set to no damage they will just get pissed off abuse report you and get you tossed out of the game

Ah I don't plan on it, I am just trying to get a general idea of how things will be balanced.
If someone makes a super weapon, what's to stop them from killing everyone? ![]() |

That's my point ![]() |

Well, the thing is, when people create weapons and use them on people that don't want to be shot/killed/etc, usually those people are abuse-reported and suspended/reprimanded etc. We call 'em "griefers". Usually having the health damage disabled on that piece of land keeps you from having anything done to you other than being pushed, as far as I know, but I have been teleported home because I "died" when I was on land that enabled it.
I personally do not know if you can control the extent of damage in a certain weapon._____________________

And by the way, a lot of newbies DO go around shooting people who don't want to be shot -- that's why everyone is all worried

And a lot of newbies find themselves banned during their free trial period for flying around and shooting people who don't want to be shot.

If someone makes a super weapon, what's to stop them from killing everyone? ![]() What stops them from killing everyone is A) Land has to be damage enabled for avatars to actually die B) It is considered a reportable offense to just wander around shooting non consenting people C) Getting a reputation as a known greifer and being banned from everywhere in SL |

Heh it's cool. hmm are there like combat arena's that have premade weapons that you can only choose from in them, so that it is fair and balanced?

Heh it's cool. hmm are there like combat arena's that have premade weapons that you can only choose from in them, so that it is fair and balanced? People often find a way to cheat or circumvent the system. One known way of guaranteeing a "fair and balanced" game is to play with friends who you know and trust won't pull a quick one on you. I suppose you could hold something in a place like Jessie sim, or another venue. I've heard of some combat arenas (even for melee things like boxing) but they seem to come and go. ![]() _____________________

Heh it's cool. hmm are there like combat arena's that have premade weapons that you can only choose from in them, so that it is fair and balanced? There are 2 places that are pretty much free for all combat -- Jessie, and Rausche (a combat sandbox).. But you'll still find people with the 'max damage weapons' -- every now and then you'll hear talk about folks wanting to start a project with balanced weapon types.. try and track them down and hook up with an existing project would be my advice. The more folks you get together, the easier (and cheaper) it will be. Siggy. _____________________

Heh it's cool. hmm are there like combat arena's that have premade weapons that you can only choose from in them, so that it is fair and balanced? Not yet, but soon ![]() As far as I know, there are 3 damage systems in SL. 1) SL built-in damage system which works in damage enabled areas such as Jessie and Rausch. 2) The OPFOR RLDMG system by Jack Orlowski. It's not so much a system as it is a guideline on how to use the SL damage system. (eg. A pistol should do between 20 and 35 damage, a rifle should do between 50 and 80, etc) It works on the honour system. I think all the weapons released by the OPFOR people are compatable with this system. 3) The Unreal SL damage system, which is a proprietary damage system created by CrystalShard Foo. (Unreal SL is not yet open to the public, I think, but is in working condition) For what it's worth, the Seburo CX (http://www.secondserver.net/index.php?option=com_shopsys&Itemid=65&viewItem=641) is compatable with all 3 systems. _____________________
