I'm getting bored of SL these days. There are many bugs, bad lag... It's not the clean, crisp service it once was...
I find the real world much more interesting. I have just ordered a hugely powerful 1U server with just under half a terabyte of storage in it. I'm sending it to London to sit in a data warehouse, and all this weekend I've been doing tests of the software I'm going to put on it. I'm having Postfix and Courier IMAP on it, all linked to MySQL, and I'm going to build some WAP (internet on mobile phone) stuff so I can create an entire email + webspace + ftp login account for a customer just by clicking on my mobile (cell) phone. Now THAT's cool, slick, and efficient.
I already have two businesses who want to get some space on my server, and I'm going to charge them £10 a month, which means I'll soon be making a profit.
Getting this up and running, doing something in life, that's cool. And I'm in control too. Seems most days in Second Life, I can't go anywhere or do much because of the lag. And as far as LSL goes, the majority here aren't interested if it's not clothes or if you can't use it for having sex.
I'm going to keep stopping by Second Life cause it's a good idea in theory, and sometimes in practice. There was a time when I quite liked it, but I'm kind of bored of it now.

yep sl isn't a substitute for real life. if you try to use it for one it's a recipe for disapointment.

Yeah, real life has it's perks... But we still don't have the ability to fly, teleport, or edit and move objects with telekinesis... At least the graphics are better and it doesn't take a long time to load a region...

The only two advantages 1st Life has are: full sensory immersion (admittedly, a big one) no lag
Otherwise, it's rather pointless... at least as much as SL is.
Also, as to your title: The world of 1st Life is one where the Griefers have taken over and run nearly the entire planet. So I think calling it the Free World is very misleading.

It helps take away from the tedium of the day, and lets me escape from reality for a while. Sometimes thats just what you need. To stop thinking about things that matter, and let go of life for a few hours, err.. or 8 hours.. LOL
