Has anyone else used this? I'm totally impressed with it. My IE has been hijacked for about 2 weeks now with adware. Been using Firefox which I like as well, but the fact my IE is out of service sucked. I hadn't have time to redo my system after spybot and ad aware 6 failed to clean my system so I figured I'd try this out.

I downloaded it off microsoft's site and it worked great! Took longer to scan and clean since it hit every instance one at a time , but my IE works great again and it found 45 spyware/adware infected files and registry entries.

I know people are going to be like "Microsoft sucks, nothing but crap can come from them and I refused to use any of their software" .. but I think this may be the start of an awesome spyware/adware cleaner.

Pretty good to know I can remove the dangerous spyware items and don't have to pay for it. It's definitely a great program and all that Microsoft is missing for their security software library is an antivirus program :D

Remember folks, that this is a beta. It's only free for now. Microsoft WILL be charging a monthly service fee to use the software once they go Gold. Don't get your hopes up.

That's unfortunate

I wouldn't mind paying a monthy fee, but I would be a little hesitant if I have to pay for the software or pay a lot in monthy fees.

I run both Ad-Aware AND Spybot, and Spybot is constantly finding things Ad-Aware misses.

I've also found that to be true. I like that the Microsoft one catches a wide variety and I don't have to worry about it missing some adware or spyware components.

I have been using it since the first day the beta was released, and I think it is an excellent program - certainly worth paying for once it is released. As far as an antivirus program, it is my understanding that an antivirus program is forthcoming from MS as well.

I concur. I use both of these, along with SpywareBlaster which is an additional gateway defense of sorts. Together, they are a fine trifecta.

It must be nice to be so rich that you develop a free anti-spam-hijackware client for the purpose of cleaning out the most spammed inbox in the world. *chuckles*

/me stamps around.

Microsoft's anti-whatever software will not be "free" (i.e. bundled with Windows). They will be "subscription-based" products.

Long live Ad-Aware and Spybot S & D! *cheers*

Why would I go and spend money on a monthly service when you can utilize these wonderful tools for free!! Seriously though, is there any benefit to this new Microsoft service over the 2 I use now. I mean aside from it being only 1 program instead of 2.

Other than the fact that authorised microsoft 'friends' will be able to have their own spyware let through for a nominal fee...?

Is that speculation or fact? I could definitely see MS pulling something like that. And that is just not happy.

Speculation... but history does have a habbit of repeating itself.

Unfounded Microsoft bashing at its finest.

Name one Microsoft product that charges a monthly service fee?

Here in Europe, they are making Microsoft remove media player from Windows. Now we have to pay for a third party media player. Very stupid.

Microsoft announced they will call their European release "Windows XP Reduced Media Edition" and people already complain about not having full product.

Microsoft bashing is funded by developers trying to steal business from Microsoft. They cannot make a better product so they have to resort to lawyers and government.

Like America, Microsoft is always in a no-win situation due to the envy of those that would like to be like them.

Ummm... no, my Micro$oft bashing isn't funded by anyone. I bash M$ because they cheat (monopoly), steal (anyone remember chkdsk?), and generally write shitty, bloated code. I prefer an operating system writen by people who care about the code they write, not about the $ they can sell it for.

Microsoft has done many shady things in thier business practices. Thier history as a company includes violation of business ethics, strongarming, extortion, theft and generally being very dishonest. They are far from innocent, and probably deserve any bashing they get, from whatever source.

I'm not bashing Microsoft. I'm stating a known fact about the product/service.

Can't wait to try this little M$ Beta out when I get home. Does anyone got the link to the direct d/l?

That Ad-aware proggy crap don't seem to work right on my Explorer, but I've been on Opera v7 something and it's actually quite nice. Haven't tried FireFox yet.
