I would like to thank Linden Labs for the changes coming in 1.2. I expect that the new scheme will make/save me a great deal of money (as in USD) over the long run.
Linden has done something brilliant with the new payment scheme. We can buy land with real money. On that land we set up businesses that charge customers. We then take those profits as real money. Now, this does change the game somewhat, but it makes it more like real life. Now, I can’t afford to open a McDonalds IRL but I could open a fake one for twenty or thirty bucks. Then when people buy my pretend hamburgers I can keep their real money.
What makes this even better is that now all in game transactions have become real world transactions. Now, when we sell something with L$ we are actually selling it for US$ -- through interstate commerce no less. In game agreements become contracts, which, when broken, create real world damages and likely real world litigation. I have many attorneys in my family and they are sure to love this. Moreover, an amalgamation of federal agencies can now become involved. Those of us who enjoy dealing with the FCC for streaming music or the FTC for fraud allegations should start planning their 1.2 parties now. Think won’t it be great when you can sue because the vehicle you just bought didn’t perform as well as advertised and thereby violoated warrantee of merchantability.
Personally, what I like about the new system is that you can buy property with real money, derive real income from it, and then sell it for more real money. Now that I think about it, I can do that with REAL real money in my home town. I could go buy a house and rent it. That should make me even more money.
Linden has done one of two things: Either they have made SL no longer a game. Or, they have pointed out just how much of a game real life is. I’m voting for the second. Consequently I think I should put all of my energy into playing real life rather than second life. I will try to become rich IRL rather than in SL. There’s a duplex for sale up the street. I am calling my banker tomorrow.

I do not believe the Linden payouts will be as you have delineated. It appears from reading their FAQ that they will pay certain people for content. (What they'll do with it, I'm not sure.) It also appears that we will pay a certain amount of money according to our land holdings.
There does not appear to be a connection between these two states of affairs. I do not believe you will be able to sell objects for greenbacks.

Leave the sarcasm to the experts mate!
Money payouts only go to the very popular attractions. There's no other real-world money exchange at all.

I am pretty sure I read soemwhere u can exchange your L$ to US$
From Phillip Linden's post: "+ Linden Lab will not be selling L$ for RL$. We will instead be offering programs where you can get RL$ for L$. Our goal is to stimulate even more content creation to make SL better for everyone. Existing L$ holdings, projects, and land will be even more valuable than before."
So if I sell 50 dresses in world for 120 each i will have 6000 L$ and according to Philip this can be transferred (not the same currency of course) to US$
No?

No? I think Phil made a little grammer/wording mistake there. I believe he's saying that we can use our L$ towards things that we can buy IW with RL$ (like land), and that they will be starting programs to reward users that participate creatively with RL$; I think the 'get RL$ for L$' statement really confused people, the 'for L$' shouldn't be there... I *think*. ==kurisu

It'll be interesting to see SL a year down the road when you have to go to ebay to buy plots of land.

I could be wrong! Mm, it would be odd of them to give money back that we've happily paid them tho. I'd never do that unless I absolutely had to Pirate

I guess you could go to that gaming market and sell for RL$.. but then if there are more sellers than buyers I imagine the current value there would lower,
