live video streaming into SL - how are people with PCs doing it?

Hi folks,

It's pretty simple to stream pre-recorded videos into SL. Just plop them on a webserver, make sure they're playable by Quicktime, and specify the URL for the inworld video stream.

You can get fancier and specify the URL of a QuickTime Streaming Server (QTSS) stream and watch a collection of pre-recorded videos that reside on the QTSS.

You can get even fancier and do live video. To actually broadcast live video that is viewable in SL you can fire up the free QuickTime Broadcaster on a Mac and use that to send your live video to a QTSS (or the free Darwin Streaming Server), which then streams it into SL.

My question is...how are people using PCs to broadcast live video into SL? I found a great thread here:

/142/2b/38254/1.html

Only problem is...the program "mpegable Broadcaster" is no longer available. :(

Is there a free or el-cheapo program that does what mpegable Broadcaster used to do? Is anyone using it?

I'm trying to figure out what the best PC-solution is for streaming live video into SL and would love to share some solutions with Residents who ask me about this.

Don't know about how PC'ers are doing it...

I'm using large 3x4ft. whiteboards, each with the image I want to animate; I basically holding each, then dropping quickly to trick most people into seeing the animations!

Bit kitchen-sinkish but very effective!

:p :)

Flip you got all the white-boards for this weekend's demo for Pathfinder?

It should be about 1,231 all toll which will be very cool as it will push the envelope for at least a 7.5444 min. demo!

Breathing being on the cutting edge of new technology!

:D

I've been wondering about this for months, I would REALLY love to know also, the price of servers have been one reason I havent done this so far (and why I applied for SLTV contest) lol

I'm confused; ..... you want to watch live streaming videos of people in SL doing it?

so far i am using Perl + Darwin streaming server + quick time from what i gather these are what is needed to stream it from your pc however i havnt had much luck but maybe somone else will now they know what packages to use + if your running a mac wich im not you should be able to get it running easy peasy!. lucky for me i have a few URL's where i can watch films 24/7 anyhows.

perl is used to play around with darwin - darwin is used for the streaming -Quick Time is needed to view media in sl

p.s darwin is a pain in the but wich is the one im stuck on if somone can find an alternative to this that will work with QT+SL then plz share the knowlege
