So with 1.5.6, the sim fps on Briarcliff Manor went from varying from 900 - 2500 to a freakishly soaring 6000 - 9000!!

WOOT WOOT WOOT WOOT WOOT.

/clap

Anyone else notice this anywhere else inworld?

Wait til the sim crashes and it gets reassigned to a different number.

I noticed that Numbakulla's FPS is way up as well, so unless they originally set it up on old hardware and it's now running on newer hardware (which I'd have words to say to them about, if true), there are either great improvements in 1.5.6 due to the asset handling changes or a bad memory leak that's not been mentioned has been resolved.

FPS has tripled in Kumori and doubled in Amaterasu since the upgrade. I expect Amaterasu's will go up even more after this weekend when I get rid of all the light objects I'm using right now.

Not sure why it happened, but I'm happy about it. :)

It's because you got a better server this time around.

It's totally random. Seacliff's server got better, but not by much so the SimFPS is up a whole whopping 100, and the Time Dilation still flickers like crazy.

I don't believe this is true. I've only had my private sim for 3 months so are you saying that they originally used my setup fee to set me up on old hardware? I can't believe that's true and certainly the sim number was very high previously, indicating that it was already new.

Check the number of the sim. It's probably higher than the last time. If it's the same, then they may have did SOME work on the simulators, but it won't be lower value.

You'd better believe they'd use your setup fee to put you on a box that already exists though. Duh. Is your SimCPU at 0.50? That means there's another sim on your box with you. Which is fine, since the newer boxes can handle that. But you aren't the only one using that box, which means your entire setup fee didn't go for that one box.

On top of that, the Lindens plainly said a month or three ago that the sims now "jump around" from box to box to better deal with occasional crashes, increasing up-time and such. Your simulator is no exception.

It is possible that they give island sims more priority to the higher simulators though. That'd make sense, in a twisted bean-counter way.

what the furch!?

Kaminari had had simfps in the 500+ range. . . was a big reason I moved there. the simfps had dropped some with people moving in, but was consistently above 500. . .

Now, I'm standing in Kaminari, with absolutely noone else in the sim, and the simfps is dancing around 200

So, now they shift sims around to different boxes. . .

I dealt with Stanford's craptastic server of death for more than a year, but finally moved to what I thought was gonna be a better sim. . .

Now, it seems that I've been switched to the equivalent of Stanford's server.

This just ain't right. A big part of a land purchase decision for most people is probably how that sim performs. . . and now they're just switching that around willy nilly?

Not sure if it's higher, it's 451 now, but can't remember what the number was before.

Sim CPU is at 0.50 - are you telling me that more than one sim is running from this server? Seriously? I've never seen the Lindens say that sims share boxes, which to be honest makes the setup fee even more ridiculous if it's true.

No, Sims with Sim CPU of 0.50 indicate a CPU with hyperthreading. It's just a quirk of the reporting system that causes that. Sims with Sim CPU of 0.25 indicate four sims running on one server -- the only ones doing this are "filler" sims.

All user-owned and settled sims are running on their own hardware. Some of them have hyperthreaded P4s, some regular P4s.

Speaking of FPS

I have seen objects that report on FPS as well as other vital server/sim statistics. Can anyone direct me to someplace where I may obtain one of these tools?

Thank you...

Patrick, I'll send you one.

Catherine is correct (as usual <grin>;). If you're on the mainland, its luck of the draw as to the hard ware you get. Like with any machine, often a reboot of a server / sim causes it to perform much better ... memory leaks are being squashed out, but not 100% gone from the server side.

Regards,

-Flip

You can't get much higher than that. 451 is one of the newest sims around. Since the sims change numbers when they're brought down and back up, chances are VERY good that you had a lower numbered sim earlier. It's something like a 1:450 or 1:500 chance of it being the exact same sim.

So, with this update, I went from a server running at 500+ simfps to one running at less than half of that. . .

How can this be right?

Will noone else scream from the top of my giant piano about the injustice? :p

So, when is the next server shuffle. . . I had such plans in the works to ACTUALLY develop my place soon. . . even purchased a website for it for the next year. . .

now. . . pffft. Screw that. . . if I have more than two people at my place (myself included) it'll just becomes a lagfest now.

damn. . . and my giant waffle checkerboard with oreo cookie checkers was almost complete. . . sigh

Next sim shuffle will be the next time the grid goes down. You might be able to re-randomize your sim by crashing it.
