I dont see a problem with having a page with advertising space as long as it is done in a way that it is equitable for everyone. I would hate to see the same merchants week after week just becase they have the most money. I dont not like that its being done in ebay and would not be interested in it for that reason.

That being said, I dont see why they can not just add a page for this under tabs instead of replacing top pics.

Perhaps the method for selecting top pics may need revamping but I think it is a good way to find places that have something of interest to offer, not just a product someone wants to sell me.

How long until the auction "winners" start reselling the ad spots to make money? It happened with land, so it could happen with this. :p

Not gonna happen.

Kats -

I guess the thread is on Page 2 or 3 now - but this was discussed last night. They can avoid that mess if they simply require you to submit your SL account name upon winning the auction. After that, the spots should be non-transferrable and only applied to objects / lands the winning bidder is the owner of, according to the servers.

Take care,

Ah, and you think that will stop people from reselling the spot on ebay or any other means? People have been selling their accounts, so it wouldn't be that hard to resell the spot: the person could always win the auction then resell the spot and place the other players ad instead of their own.

I think I should stop giving people ideas or they will do this too.

Violates Terms of Service.

Kats -

Wow, that's a LOT of effort - I mean, transferring an ENTIRE account and all of its possessions, just for an ad in the "Find" dialog? Seems a bit extreme, if you ask me.

Oh, and I'd like to point out that, as has been discussed before, selling / transferring accounts violates the Terms Of Service - so if people do this, report them and I'd bet good money (US$) that LL bans the account quite quickly!

Its good that you're skeptical - but I really see the potential for exploitation to be smaller than most other things.

Take care,

Just to clarify, what I meant was that the auction "winner" could place the ad of someone else's event, store, etc. (e.g. I "win" the auction and place and ad of Francis' Seburo).

P.S. This is just an example of what could happen, since there are many players that would try to exploit this, the same way that players have exploited textures, accounts and items.

Right, but...

What I am saying is that the winning bidder should ONLY be allowed to submit an ad for something THEY OWN, or an event on THEIR property. This, plus making it non-transferrable, neutralizes most (if not all) of the potential exploits.
