He pulls up material that is clearly known from his act to openly attack Chris Rock.

There is a certain nueron disabled in the mind of most moronic news whores which for the rest of us would set off the siren and light indicators of humor and/or irony. Fudge is one of the sick. Just feel sorry for him...he has to live in a world which he will never get.

People from the Guild have expressed their dissatisfaction this is kinda like having Rush Linbaugh Emcee the DNC National Convention.

Really? That's odd.

http://www.variety.com/VR1117917904.html

Chris Rock hosting the Academy Awards is hardly like Limbaugh hosting the DNC. Chris Rock isn't even addicted to heroin!

I think it's just another racist Republican shill trying to create a moral outrage over a television special.

One audio recording captures Rock firing off more than 35 F-words per minute!
OMFG How unprecedented for a stand-up comic these days! I hope he doesn't have a wardrobe malfunction! I like writing with exclamation marks! It adds punch to otherwise meaningless sentences! I never read Drudge before! If this is representative, I'm glad I haven't!

hahah Comic says something shocking and controversial!!! News at 11!!

In a related story Denis Leary endorses cancer and clubbing baby seals!

Some folks in the world are so mercifully free from the ravages of intelligence..

Personally I think they just have a sad-on because a black man will be hosting the oscars.. .I'm not sure if Chris is the first (to tell the truth I've been too busy to check), but I have been very pleased that he's thus far approached it as an 'it ain't no thang' issue.

Let the dude do his thang, personally I hope the guy does a good job.

Siggy.

I think Whoopi was the first African American to do it alone (Diana Ross emceed as part of a quartet in '74) but Chris Rock is the first black man to host solo.

Thanks :) I had a suspicion that Whoopi had.. So far though I've been really pleased that they haven't jumped on the 'Look - the first African American Male to Host!'

I think thats a step in the right direction. When it's no longer a big deal we'll be that much closer to 'the dream'.

Siggy.

Why does Drudge want to smear Chris Rock? Because Drudge is full of shit, and he likes to share.

But nothing is drudged up... those comments are straight from his routines.

Has even our cynical websites lost their sense of irony? Come ON!

He is dredging up Rock's comedy routine to make a point.

I think that is ludicrous.

I personally know a couple of stand-ups. They, along with most others, will tell you that most of the things they say are simply made up or exagerrated for effect. The shots at their parents, the government, Hollywood, et al, so using their own words against them is totally useless as it's just a product they sell.

Not to split hairs, but doesn't "dredge" imply something that's dug up from being hidden? Like, you dredge the bottom of a lake?
Chris Rock hardly thinks any of his routines are something to be ashamed of, so I don't see how quoting them could ever really be "dredging them up".

What's curious about this attack on Chris Rock is how inane it seems to be in the method. That was the point I was approaching.

Yes, we are splitting hairs I suppose, especially because we agree. :)

Just so you know where I am coming from (I am a etymology freak) :

[Middle English dreg-(in dreg-boat, boat for dredging); akin to Old English dragan, to draw.]

He is drawing from Rock's routine to make an asinine point, ;)

Big shocker!

I watch FOX now and again to keep abreast of their "news" and I have noticed that Colmes barely even tries to argue anymore. He needs to ditch that hell hole.

He probably earns a fat paycheck, though; his name's in the title.

Am I Reading The Same Article?
02-15-2005 06:21
Because I'm having trouble finding the "smear" here. While the article does include objectionable remarks from Rock's routines, it also includes lines like this:

Producer Gil Cates said in a press release late Monday:

"Chris's comments over the past few weeks are meant to be humorous digs at a show that some people, obviously including Chris himself, think may be a bit too stuffy."

Rock late Monday said the comments were taken out of context.

I know you Lefties aren't used to seeing unbiased journalism so I don't blame you for not recognizing it.

On the other hand there's this lil gem from Rock:
"Weird white guys getting overly patriotic, with their f**king flag hats on," Rock said.

"I am not scared of al Qaeda, I am scare of f**king al Cracker."

First of all, what exactly is "overly patriotic" anyway? Second if that were a white comedian saying he was afraid of "al N****er" you SLiberal's would lose your minds and make sure to wrap his mouth in miles and miles of PC tape.

Once again, your hypocrisy is showing.

...personally finds Chris Rock to be extremely funny

HOST CHRIS ROCK SHOCK: ONLY GAYS WATCH OSCARS...

ABORTION IN AMERICA IS 'BEAUTIFUL'...

Oscar Producer Dismisses Rock Comments...

Rock Stirs Controversy...

Those were the BOLD RED headlines.

If you want to call that unbiased journalism the fine. It is a worthless crock of shit to stir of a family values outrage over a comedian on television.

Still haven't mentioned his racist comment. Or do comedians get a free pass? Also, he's stereotyping gays-I would think you'd be all over that one, Neehai. Or do black comedians get a pass?

The only real complaints other than Drudge I've heard is (via CNN and Fox) that some in hollywood took offense when Rock stated recently that he didn't like to watch the Oscars, he felt that they were a fashion show...and they (same group supposedly) were mad about the anti-gay and anti-"rural america" jokes he has in his stand-up act....buncha whiners...

Really though do we not rely on the comedians to push the envelope for us and make us think....Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor and even Bill Maher (gotta include a white guy for quota purposes). They all pushed us to embrace our own thoughts which at first seem funny but later we admit are living in our heads. He has never said anything anti-gay or anti-rural. He only points out stereotypes and forces us to look at ourselves and the manner in which we look at others. He is a comedian first and foremost. We give him the material though.

And Kiamat, yes comedians get a free pass. We all do but we do not take it. He laughs at himself and others exposing those thoughts that we have in our heads which we would never say outloud. 90 percent of the thoughts in our heads if said outloud would be just as funny and it would eventually kill the stereotypes.
