I was just wondering, with the line between r/l and v/r growing ever more gray, would it be considered "cyber-prostitution" if one were to position one's self such that they were receiving L$'s in exchange for engaging in "intimate" adult conversations with willing patrons? ... patrons who are, of course, both consenting and of adult age? Is such activity deemed immoral, illegal unethical or otherwise against the rules, here in SL?

That is about 60 percent of SL residents occupation. I could be wrong on the percentage...but its been done and is being done all the time in SL. Go have fun!

You're about a year late with that idea. Why would it be illegal? It's no different than 900 numbers or adult websites. And it's really Linden Lab's responsibity to keep out the minors.

I dont know from personal experience, but I think the "escort" industry is very much alive and thriving in SL right now. Look at it as role play, if you want to be a hooker and someone wants to pay you to be a hooker, so what, more power to those involved. I dont see anything illegal about it.

Not my thing but I'm sure you will be fine if you keep the conversations in an M rated sim. PG is asking for trouble.

I have always wondered why Linden Labs does not advertise heavily in Playboy, Maxim, and similar magazines. Perfect audience.

I don't even look at event listings anymore as it seems all events are 'escort' related.

Don't get me wrong, I am far from being a prude, but it gets old.

Yes, it's legal. It's basically the equivalent of phone sex because there is no physical interaction with the other person.

However, it could be a problem if REAL prostitutes were to use SL as a way to get real-life customers (however unlikely that would be). SL wouldn't be to blame for this, but a whole lotta people like to shoot the messenger anyway.

I do get uncomfortable when I see minors having cyber sex with adults here in SL. I know of a 14 year old who was the "pet" of a lady in her 50s here in SL. She led him around using a leash around his neck and he wore only a thong. That bothered me.

I think the 14 year old is gone now because I have not seen him since around the time of that incident. Several people did report his presence to LL when he became involved in the sex pet thing. Unfortunately there are many minors here on accounts established by an adult parent and there is really no way to do anything about that. LL can and has requested proof of identification when a minor is suspected but there are cases where the parent submits his own ID.

Hopefully the kid grid will attract kids who are interested in trying SL, but I suspect like any situation the Mature rating of the main grid will be the preferred venue.

Hypothetical... What if I offered RL sex for Lindens bucks? How about RL sex for SL services and items?

I don't have thoughts on this either way. Just fun to ponder (sex that is)

if you have to ask...

there are no second life rules against such a profession as described. the only rules that apply are prostitution laws in the state and country that taxes you when you cash the lindens on ige or gom.
