Since this community has a high concentration of smarts...

I want to share this with you:

http://www.advisorteam.com/temperament_sorter/register.asp

And for more general information:

http://keirsey.com/

If you are interested in people, yourself, others, or psychology check this out. His books have been around for at least 10 years or so, with some of the basic theory going back to Jung. The Kiersey Temperament Sorter is widely used by counselors, psychologists etc. to help people understand themselves and other people.

The site makes you subscribe, then there used to a free test and then, the bastard (j/k), charges for the rest. ( I am not really sure what they do now). You should be able to find the Keisey Temperment Sorter I or II in bookstores for about 10 to 20$.

The Sorter is not about mental disorders or anything like that, its just about classifying peoples’ personalities into archetypes based on a long line of scientific studies. All of it is positive stuff. Over the years I have given this test to a lot of friends. All but one were amazed with it.

I read one of his books in college about 10 years ago, and it really had a profound impact on my understanding of self and others, and they way people interact (relationships!). Kiersey’s (et al.) work is not particularly technical. He wrights it for ordinary people (its even more marketed towards the masses these days, which annoys me lol)

Many of you here fall into certain minorities personality-wise. Because you are a minority, and because you can do things most other can’t, your life can be a bit more difficult than a more garden-variety person. His work started to give me a good grasp of how all this works, and how I and others fit into the overall scheme of things.

So it might solve some people-related mysteries for you. :)

I came across this a long time ago, and found out I'm "InTx".

A lot of programmers seem to be INTP or INTJ, I've noticed.

This is a pretty neat concept, though most people seem to not know of it, or shurg it off as "labeling" people.

Maybe it's labelling, but I found that the description of the two groups that I sit between seem remarkably familiar to me, and gave me some perspective on things that I wasn't aware of prior to reading about them. Maybe I'll pick up the book soon =)

It'd be interesting to see what other people come up with =)

Rational here. Out of the four types of rational, I'd guess I'm an INTJ.

Hm. The first time I took that, I came out as INFJ. Can't remember what I was last time I took it, but I believe it involved INT*.

INFP :)

The Kiersy-Warner test is brilliant. It's based on Jungian personality types. There are other variations, most notably the Myers-Briggs test (which can still be found online for free I believe).
