Hello. born almost yesterday noob here.

i've been vaguely wandering around trying to find guides/faqs/rants about the stuff listed below and would appreciate most links and rants:

* where do the weirdos hang out (besides the sex club casino folks)?
- like are there alien-theme, scifi-theme people gettin together somewhere? i see the star trek dance event; it's cute. i've seen one little green guy with a funny head. i've seen the furry folks. i've seen darklife and references to nexus prime.
- i saw someone's avatar pic with the toast looking creature their friend made for them. muy art fun. i'd like to see more alternative cartoon characters.

* what's with Furries anyways? and other such social-appearance phenoms? an overview of such funny peoples thread would be interesting to me.

* how about alternative physical spaces? i've seen dancing on the ceiling-type scripted objects on SLexchange. is there an area with a good concentration of funky physical stuff?

* so how about those scripts, eh? is there a list of cool scripts contest winners running around? i'd like one-line descriptions of cool scripts--just to get an idea of what people have done/what LSL can do.
- hovercars, etc are cool. how about superjumping boards for transport (I play City of Heros); anyone made something like that? how could i find out?

thanks in advance for leads. SL is cool. the learning center is cool: primtionary event is cool; too bad i crashed on my first turn to build :P

Second Life is vast. Many kinds of weird people hang out in many kinds of weird places. If it's a space theme you're after, go somewhere like the Sci-Fi Museum which Chosen Few did -- located in the Indigo sim, you can't miss it if you're a sci-fi buff for obvious reasons ;) -- and Gravity Space Station club in the SimQuest sim is a fantastic place to be.

Tons and tons and tons of those around. Hang around in the Welcome Area or even the sandboxes long enough, and you'll see a lot of creative avatars. Go to somewhere like Goodwrench Grayson's Mushroom Kingdom (in Davenport I believe) for a real kick of that video game fun.

What's with them? Feel to go to Luskwood and ask them why it appeals. General overviews of subcultures can be found at places like WIKIPEDIA.COM. For example:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furry

But when it comes down to it, get to know each person as a unique individual. I'm a time traveller. Not all of us are the same -- or use time travel towards the same ends, for that matter. ;)

Yah, Cristiano Midnight makes a fun ceiling dance. You want weird physical stuff? Well, proportion wise, go to Backstage and Nowall sims. They're connected anyway. Talk about a big world... there's a lot of surreality in SL. Sometimes you'll just fly over a place and something will catch your eye.

Hmmm there are a variety of those. I know a lot of uberscripters. You can't go through SL unscathed without knowing certain people's work. I recommend you open the Groups window and search using keywords like "script" to get some more names. Also, search the forums -- there's a lot to go on from the past. There was a "cool scripting" thread done awhile back... let me see if I can find it......

My recommendation is you check out sandboxes, get to know scripters new and old and everything in between, and see what happens next. One thing leads to another. Some people have crazy trampolining vehicles -- creativity knows few bounds here. You'll likely be finding out one day at a time, learning as you go along... hoping you have a lot of fun.

Oh, here's the scripting thread... check this out:

/54/d8/28143/1.html

Note that it was started by Francis Chung.

She is an uberscripter.

Check out everything she makes.

And... as for other stuff in SL, you can't go on without reading New World Notes:

Plenty o' stuff in the archives. A rich, varied history... and the timeline continues!!! :D

Baku is the land of robots and giant toilets. Well, maybe not all of it. Yet.

Oh shoot... yeah, go to the Baku sim if you want a lot of surreal weirdness... W-Hatland!

It's like a city but... a weird city. It's the first place in SL I went gokarting and skydiving, and heck, on the way down, it's *such* a trip.

Cool stuff abound -- a fave of mine, the sheep crusher, is missing at the moment, but I have read it will be back soon. ^_^

I recommend.

You mean there are people who are in Second Life who aren't weird????? That's horrifying.

For your convenience, here's a wide-angle view of W-Hat property in Baku sim:

hi there!

A bunch of us have supported the idea of adding more flexibility to alter sim options - gravity, sky, etc - Lindens have not responded yet, but I am gung-ho about this.

Count me in as gung-ho too... would be cool to get into AnneDroid's rocket and blast to another planet.

I wouldn't think it'd be that hard -- particularly for private sims, anyway. The sky already turns from day to night and back again... how difficult would it be to make two moons and watermelon-colored airscapes? It'd add uniqueness, dynamics, and a heckuva lotta fun.
