Can you guys please help me come up with a fair salary for:
- Dancers
- Hosts / Managers
- DJ's
Also, what is a good tip percentage? I hear most defaults are 85% - 15%... Is that about right?
Thanks for your help!

This is just a sort of guide to go by. You should also get a system to pay them so you don't have to do it by hand. The program automatically clocks them in and out and pays them out of your account. Don't remember the name of it.
Dancer's L$40 per hour with an 80/20 tip split. 20 going to the owner of the club. Most poles are already set up this way. This is a very good hourly for dancers. Some pay as low as L$6 for 15 min plus tips. If the dancer's dance when there is not an event, they only get tips and no hourly. Host/Hostess L$150 per hour for a two hour event. DJ's L$175. There are also DJ's that only work for tips. It can depend on where you get your stream. Some streams have their own DJ's Managers L$1750 per week. This is a starting point. Those with a lot of experience can make up to L$7000 per week. A nice way to set it up is to have your manager also be host/hostess if you can work it out. It really depends on their experience. A good hostess can make up to L$200 per hour for a 2 hour event. This is pretty much the end of my knowlege on this. I am sure there is someone out there that has other ideas on this subject. |

Thanks for the reply... It's about what i was expecting... I was thinking of having a lower salary, but having more incentives to make money... i.e. I'll be selling merchandise at the club, so anyone who is on the clock when something is bought will get to split 20% (or so) of the purchase price...
Thanks! I'm trying to find a time clock (1 clock) that can clock in everybody and clock them out, sending me a weekly report. If they leave the club it clocks them out automatically... Is this something like the one you mentioned? From just some early browsing I can only find clocks that work 1 per person... |

Hi there... I have worked all areas of the club, from dancing all the way to general manager. Most dancing jobs I found were purely tips. So if you are offering a wage at all most will be happy with that! 80/20 split is standard, although most people complain about this. However, if you are offering a wage then it is more then fair. All hosting jobs I found/worked were $200L for 2 hours. That is standard. I wouldn't suggest going lower. DJ wages can really vary! Some of the elite in sl make up to $3000L for 2 hours! But the norm that I encountered and what is usally offered is $500L for a 2 hour set. Managers... well typical for event manager is around $1500L a week. They would then be in charge of staffing events, posting to sl events, sending notices... As a general manager the salary is usally double, so $3000L a week. They would ultimately be in charge of everything concerning the club and it's functioning smoothly. Now, as far as a time clock, there are several versions out there, but I am including a link to one on sl exchange that is realtivly cheap and has all the right functions. Hope this helps! And good luck with your endevor.

Gosh it really blows my mind the outlets for making money, and the hourly differences made.
I am not posting at ALL to boast, I am merely telling you to illustrate the different types of skill sets, and the monies made on them --As a modeler and texture artist who works on lightning sim production (quickly creating entire builds for new movies coming out) for real-life production companies--I make around $6K L an hour (on the high end). And I'm only freelancing--I work for a company that in turn works for another company..so just imagine how much USD is actually flowing through these projects! It seems Managers, Hosts, Dancers, and streaming DJs have to work pretty hard for peanuts. I understand that modeling and texturing is a valued skill, but it still seems your hourly pay is pretty low. But that's just me. There are obviously specific ways to earn a living in SL, and there are clearly other ways to "work" for in-world companies just to make a few lindens here and there. I'm not saying everyone should strive to make enough wages to warrant a money conversion...I'm just saying if you use your head (just like in RL) you will find the trades and skills that are in demand, and pay accordingly. Of course, I actually went to school in RL for design and illustration (which cost USD), so I can [guilt free] pursue opportunities here that really pay off and are worth my time and skill-set. It's interesting to see people camping to make 5L every ten minutes...or how other people panhandle the grid 5L here, 100L there...and how a Manager can work his ass off all week and only make a few thousand...just not fair I suppose. _____________________

Well Dancers, hosts, and managers are in the entertainment biz... Which is huge in SL, but because it seems easy their is a large influx of people doing them...
Personally I work as a dancer in my off hours because I enjoy it. It lets me earn $L for things I'd like to get in world while I'd be doing what I like anyways. I make something like $200-300L an hour on a good day (event or just more than 6 or 7 customers in the club at once). I was also a hostess for an event (unfortunately the planning behind the event was kinda bad and we had very few guests and most of those trailed off so we never built momentum) on that occasion (outside any dancing I did) I made $300L for about 2 hours work. Now escorts are also in the same biz (though this original poster didn't mention them) and they often make more than managers by getting $300+ L for as low as 15 minutes. Or figure $1200/hour. Some make more than this for an hour, but those are top escorts and demand for them is high. Now most business that use escorts take a cut of their earnings, make the escort pay for use of facilities, or both. But they tend to be far easier to work in then having to spend 45 minutes of every hour looking for a new customer... It can also be awfully hard to freelance because only certain places will let you use their facilities for paid virtual sex... I once saw a good escort list rates on a monthly basis and it was topping 1 mil L. Managers are the crazy point... They are worth more than dancers or host/hostesses to a club and (for those clubs who have them) as important as a top escort. But they will tend to make less than an escort does, because figuring out pay for them can be tough... They tend to have tip jars, and often dance and host as well (depending on club) when needed so sometimes they get bonuses for doing those tasks... Then they have to often train, promote, and secure a club (often they are the only security staff at a club). A good club owner pays whatever they need to keep the good managers and most can make a good wage for their time, ones who are only average or mediocre suffer though making the figures like $1500L a week... I can make more as a dancer than that (in fact I have this week), so it would be little incentive to be a manager under those conditions... I guess it wouldn't be bad if that was for one event (then your making DJ style wages), but otherwise I'd pass... _____________________

Managers

Hey Oh,
How many hours a week do you think a manager works to make over $L1,500? Just curious... I may have to get a stable of "dancers" and just let them work for tips and bonus' anytime they want, then pay a decent salary to a manager or two... Thanks for the help! |

Wow, it is amazing how many people work as just putting an avie to dance for 150L for two hours and event..
I have been trying to do decent events on more interesting topics and teach others in building, fashion, photoshop, scripting, teaching new residents on land, business, ect.... An for 1 class I pay 400L for an hour + tips to do something of their own interest which is still low and still people get bored or don't apply. Maybe because it requires more brains? lol It surprised me how people prefer to watch the avie going in circles, gets tons of applicants and deal with all the lag at clubs for 150L, scream and yell so the audience dance faster and change their dances constantly... Who understands SL anymore!! I wish we use talents and knowledge to help each other in different ways to learn how to get SL in better conditions. Sorry, to say but it is how I feel these days about SL _____________________

In the end....

Someone brought up an interesting point to me... Salaries may be absolutely useless unless you, as an owner, are constantly in the business for most of every day. There are so many cheats to keep an "avatar" active all a person has to do is clock in, "camp" and collect a paycheck...
I'm beginning to think the best thing to do is have everyone work for tips only and offer bonuses for those people with the most tips... At least you know they are actually working... On top of that keep one of those employee sensors (not a clock-in clock) that shows who's in the shop and for how long... Then you just find the people who are creating the most revenue, while spending the most time in the business and reward them... If they want to make extra money encourage them to all run their own 2-hour events... Maybe split the clubs profits with the event host during that time span... This is just off the top of my head... There has to be a way to gain interest without paying a salary that can be easily scammed... Thoughts? |

What about modeling? No one has mentioned what they earn.
