Well unfortunately, many of the clubs that claim to have positions for everything available are brand new clubs and they dont stay open for more than a week. I've been a Dj for a little over a year and I only do private party's or special occasions because I'm tired of the drama of club life. If you want to stick to clubs, I recommend that You Find 1 major club that sbeen open for at least 6 months. These places have been and will be here for a long time and have complete hierarchy of staff and real app processes. Come Talk to me inworld and I'll give you the name of some of the best.

I just couldn't make the $L i wanted doing clubs, so now I design websites for people. Anything from an internet profile for a dj or model to online party or wedding invitations. I just dj for now cause so many clubs just suck the likfe out of a profession. Thanks for reading, JD.

Our club has been going strong for almost 3 years. While it's not a dance club per say, and we aren't interested in a full time DJ, we have been talking about having a DJ there a couple of times a month. so if you're interested in something like that, IM in world.

for my shop i just trie out the people, and see how it goes.
if someone sents me a message today he may be starting the next. I dont have big application forms just a few basic rules and after reading a short story about the person i hire, or not :)

maybe not much of use for you, unless you think djing in a shop willl give u any satisfaction.

. Our club XS is hireling dj's and host/ hostess .. but we have had lots of app. It takes time to go threw each one . we do surprise visits to clubs where the dj's are djing at to listen to them, on there regular schedule, if there djing some where else to catch them in there normal routine . we only want dj's that talk and are interactive with the clubbers .. remember most club owners do work in real life ..and take time when they come home from work to check out all app, such as we do . we still have openings till end of the week . and i am on busy when im afk and some app do get lost if you have put one in with us im me again :)

Im in the same position as Sparkle.

Some things that would speed up the process for you ( not knowing what you are doing already).

- Make sure your notecard is renamed with your name

- Dont just fill out an app at any club- make sure that club plays your genre and is open
during your preferred hours

-If you have been djing since 06 - IM sure you have some recorded shows or mixes- send club owners
an mp3 Or .. invite them to hear you Dj .

Good grammar and spelling is always a plus. If you look like a joke, which so far based on your immature little rant about not being hired, that could possibly be why you are not getting a response.

Make sure to add detail to your notecards, if you answer each question with less than three sentences, then you need not bother applying for a job, as employers in game receive so many brief and lame applications it's not funny.

Time on game, and achievements in terms of audio and mixes if your into djing is always a plus. Portfolio is very important to have when your getting into photography, djing and in some cases terraforming and real estate.

So next time instead of ranting, do yourself a favor and keep quiet, ask someone for some advice, and come off in a sense of "Hey I need help" vs "Hey I want to whine because nobody is hiring me", as your display in this topic is well, totally not impressive.

Well said Herry.

As a previous Club Owner I think there's one secret that I should let you should know...Most SL business owners DO treat their business as if it were RL. It could be very profitable to their SL and RL bank account, so don't treat clubs in SL like they're "just a game" because that is one thing that will turn potential employers away. They want serious people who will help bring attraction and profit to their club -not- someone who treats it trivially and whines like a 4 year old child.

Oh, and do double check your references if you give any...they help finalize the decision if the employer wants to accept or decline your application.

A few points...

I agree with the spelling and grammar comment. The first thing that came to mind when I read your post was that I hope you proof-read your applications. Another tip you might try is actually going to the club to check it out. Get to know some people and make your presence known. Just like in real life job postings get alot of replies so if you are on the hunt for a job or promotion you need to make yourself visible to the organization. Finally, you should understand that with both Second Life and real life jobs only applicants that are successful in the first screening of applications will usually be contacted. Most business owners do not have time to contact everyone who applied to say they did not get the position. They aren't being cruel to you, it's just the reality that time is money.

about applications
12-17-2009 10:54
we have applications at our club when ppl fill them out it goes to sl first then if ppl are able to work there then we get it back saying it they ok to hire. cause u have to be over 18 to work in the clubs and u have to be 30 days old. we hire all the time. its just we want ppl that actually want to work. cause ppl always saying they want work but never show.

And, amazing at it might sound, I would also do a search in the forums for the person -- to see how they react to other people and so forth. I'm afraid the opening post here would have me tossing that application right into the circular file.

Very well put.

UKwebdesigner Sporg, stop advertising your group in every post you can put it in, that'll really win you popularity with your group.

Ocean Emolite, basically what beddiee was saying is some clubs strictly hire based on in the club performance, invite only based on club patrons. Example, if you see someone wild at several events at your club, you might look to hire them as a host for events. That's what beddiee was referring to.

QnDragon Static, I've never heard of SL screening applications, ever.

Okay here are my tips, some have been touched on already.

1.) Be specific and accurate. Some may want several sentences in answer to a section, personally I would prefer clear and concise answers to an application, especially if I am wading through a lot of apps. I would prefer not to wade though a full biography of some ones DJ career. I would look at it much more like a resume, or many job apps you fill out. They are limited on space, often times purposefully to see how you order your thoughts and how clearly and concisely you can answer.

2.) Spelling and grammar ARE!!! important on an app and communicating with staff and the hiring manager. Use of proper spelling, case and punctuation on an "I can but don't want to." basis will only lead them to think you are immature, unreliable, and unwilling to put in any effort. If they see the effort and you make mistakes, they may be willing to over look them. If they don't it's likely they have found other candidates that can communicate clearer with their clientèle.

3.) Be mindful of your tone when writing your app, or speaking to staff and the hiring manager. A common misconception is that there is no tone on the internet. This is wrong, tone is not always as clear on the internet but it's there. The person doing the hiring will likely be looking for some one who is down to earth and can get along with other staff members without looking down on them or causing internal drama.

4.) Be sure your profile conveys you well personally. Any employer worth salt will eventually look here and you don't want them being put off or they will move on.

In the mean time I would agree with LittleMe, if the opening post were part of an app in part or in full I would not be contacting that person.

Never understood the SL Job thing. I work 8 hours a day and when I come home I surely don't want to go online and work again.
