Hello,

my name is Manu and I am relatively new in SL. I have some questions for you guys: How do I get a job in SL and is there any contract basis, hourly wage, agreed online hours ...it is actually for a research project and it would be great if someone could give me some hints!!!

Thank you so much!

Vague question, vague answers

Manu, to put your questions in perspective, just imagine asking the same questions about employment in the real world.
"Excuse me sir, how do I find a job and how much will I make?" Are you a ditch digger or a financial analyst?
SL is a microcosm where job skills are worth between 1 linden per hour and 20,000 lindens per hour. Some have defined contracts, some have only the shake of a virtual hand. Some hourly rates, some project fees. Like every student research paper questionnaire here in the forums, the typical response you will get is "go inworld, find out for yourself".

You're trying to take the easy way out of your assignment without doing the footwork yourself.

Hey Manu,

many seeking employment typically go into the establishment and ask for work. most keep applications on site.
many job seekers use Xstreets forum employment ads
many seek through friends
there is also the SL classified in world.

As for contracted or non contracted jobs; I'll tell you my experiences;
currently, I am a non contracted club consultant. I work with club owners to get their clubs in top shape for profit. Sometimes, I offer contracts and sometimes, i do not. it depends on the clubs needs.

most every virtual job has a virtual understanding that an employee can leave at any time so whatever training the employer offer is at risk of being shared elsewhere, so just as a real life employer, staff needs to be satisfied and kept happy with incentives to stay. Most incentives include an environment that is conclusive to feeling that one belongs to a 'family' or good pay. Pay is a whole other subject.

I've held many different types of jobs in sl to include - Club dancer, host, manager, general manager and staff trainer. I've been a club consultant on and off for about a year now. I prefer to control my own hours and enjoy the aspect of working with many different clubs. My real life skills over lap into the club business, which is project management. I use those same tools and skills and combine it with my in-world club skills. BTW, business is very good for me. Word of mouth advertising on sl seems to work great but there are also many other avenues for advertising your product or service.

I also build and teraform on sl and am a web developer in real life. I've use my real life skills in sl to gain employment or to get real life web dev jobs. Through Twitter, which many on sl own and account with the SL name and persona, I've also gained real life employment with an OPEN SIM provider. I was interviewed on SL and was allowed to display my skills then was hired in real life as a 3d content creator. I've since left that job because I had better opportunities and am too busy in RL to do anything other than club consulting at this time.

Hope that helps
Sam
