5 Objectives
What are the major specific objectives of your project?
Think about these: do not include only an all-embracing 'woolly' sentence.
Two main objectives:
- Can individual entrepreneurs make money in MMORPG on a long term base?
- Is there a good match between what is proposed by the game and the aspiration of the entrepreneurs in order to make money?
6 Background Information
Why have you chosen this topic?
How does it relate, for example, to your company and your job?
I am involved in two MMORPG, Entropia Universe and SecondLife.
7 Proposed Methodology
How do you intend to carry out your project? Will your approach involve generating new data or using existing data? What frameworks, theories, tools etc encountered so far in the MBA programme would you see as being of particular relevance to your project?
I proposed:
- to gather information from internal sources (e.g. financial reports) of Linden Lab and MindArk, creators of SecondLife and Entropia Universe respectively,
- to do a quantitative research with a self-completion questionnaire in order to get data from the players in both games,
- to do qualitative research with in-depth interviews with people who have put some real assets in those game (e.g. one player bought an asteroid for $100000!).
From all those data, I will analyze the factors that brought success(es) to some online entrepreneurs, and evaluate if those successes are only early successes, or long-term viable businesses in a very turbulent environment (PEST and SWOT analysis of MMORPG businesses). Also it will be interesting to analyse the behaviour of those online entrepreneurs in order to identify if they are of a new type.
8 Availability of Information/Literature
Are library facilities adequate? Will the organisation(s) involved allow you access to the data you need? What are the 3-4 key references (e.g. texts/journal papers) for your project idea?
Different academic papers have already been published about the MMOPRG. Nevertheless, those papers are specifically focusing the Asian market, and mostly on MMORPG teenagers (e.g. World of Warcarft). However, those papers are good for starting the project.

9 Value of the Project
What will be the benefits of successfully completing your project? What will be the anticipated value to your client?
The results and the conclusion of the project will be published in papers in order to inform the community of those games. In case the project concludes that it is possible to make money on the long-term, or that this new interface is a new kind of trading, promotion, it will be interesting to alert existing firms about this potential.
