Welcome to SL, Sultry!

I have a job opening as well that may work for you. You'd be sending out notecards and forum ads to potential vendors and showing them around my new sim so I can fill vacant shops. It's easy, but it takes a lil more time than I can personally put into it on a regular basis.

IM me in-world if you are or think you may be interested.

two words:

forget it.

any job in SL that will make you enough money to pay the rent for any decent-sized piece of land will take most of your time, therefor making sure that you don't actually need a piece of land to set your home.

I found it much better to simply invest the odd us$ into buiying linden dollars, and actually enjoy what this place can offer.

If you want a home to be able to get away from infohubs and such, there are lots of groups out there that own land and allow their group members to set home there.
Starboards Yacht Club comes to mind... search for "Hollywood" on the map.

If you want privacy... there is no real privacy anyways.

Totally agree.
Too often I run into new residents that are under the impression its necessary to have a job and a house of some sort. I suppose they see all the homes and think that the owners had “leveled up” to own a home. There are I suppose levels in SL that can be attained, but those are self imposed goals and have nothing to do with SL but ones own perception of success or ambition. That said, owning a place to call home in SL is quite rewarding but can quickly become an obsession. I believe it’s the “hook” that keeps residents around to pump money into the SL economy.
When I started with my first 512 sq.m I quickly found out that 117 prims just didn’t do it. I needed more land so I could have a bigger home with more things to put in around it. Then more land. And more!
Land is the crack cocaine of second life.
Anyway …Welcome to Second Life sultryblondeone and enjoy the blow. :)

Hi Sultryblondeone!

I just wanted to comment on this. I would agree new residents do sometimes feel they need to have a home. I know I wanted one when I first came in. The 512 sqm you can get may be all you need. As DaQbet stated, 117 prims is not much. However, I had a two story house that consisted of 1 big room downstairs and one big room upstairs. The upstairs also had a balcony off of it. I had a complete living room set with poseballs in them, pictures on the walls, a bed with pose balls, a bathtub with poseballs, grass to texture the land, and a tree for the front yard. I also had a small patio table and chairs for my patio. So, 117 prims can go a long ways as long as you use low prim items. All together, I was using 106 prims.

Now, some people do want bigger and better. I was happy in my little home. However, I met someone and I ended up selling my place and now live in a studio apartment above the club we co-own.

As far as a job goes. You will not make enough money to buy a house and such. Howev er, I personally work because I enjoy it in world. I meet all kinds of awesome people and have fun at what I am doing. Plus, it puts extra spending money in my pocket to buy some clothes or something I want.

So, don't get a job to buy a house. You will never be happy. However, you can get a job that you enjoy to help you get some extra spending cash. But, dont do it unless you are happy doing it.
