Hello! Thanks for contacting us regarding broadcasting opportunities with radiomaxx.net. First, a little about us: Radiomaxx.net prides itself on being the authorative voice of rock on internet radio. We play a wide variety of rock--hard rock, classic rock, alternative rock, progressive- rock, indie rock, heavy metal and nu-metal, grunge--spanning the last four decades. Our motto is: "Maximum Music all the Time," and "We play music that doesn't suck."

If you think britney spears, justin Timberlake, or Beyonce is rock, please put a loaded revolver to your forehead and gently squeeze the trigger. You'll be doing yourself and the world a favor. Honest.

If you haven't figured it out from the first paragraph, we are not a variety channel. We are
a rock station and, although we are liberal as to what we consider rock, we insist anyone
broadcasting with us adhere to the station's genre. I strongly suggest anyone wishing to
broadcast with us do the following.

(A) acquire copious amount of alcohol

(B) consume said alcohol

(C) point your win amp to http://tess.fast-serv.com:8214 and spend a few hours listening to our programming.

A little more about us: Radiomaxx has existed, more or less, since 2005. We are listed on iTunes radio and other popular media directories. We can sustain several hundred concurrent listeners, and average between 70-150 during prime time (8:00am-5:00pm) listening hours. Our website--www.radiomaxx.net--
receives several hundred unique visitors a day resulting in thousands of daily page hits.

Even a little more about us: we are an adult oriented station. That is, we are uncensored. However, we try to minimize gutter language and shock jock mentality. Many of our songs do contain explicit lyrics.

The majority of our listeners are people who tune into iTunes radio from work. Currently, only a very small percentage of our listeners are gamers, but those numbers are slowly and steadily increasing.

While we welcome DJs/broadcasters from Second Life, please understand very clearly the following: We are not a club. We are not a club. We are not a club. We are not a club. That said, please under- stand that we are a radio station, not a club. This means that you probably will be DJing without scantily clad avatars hurling tips at you. You must be capable of broadcasting to a non-second life audience. We have met many DJs who are able to DJ great to a crowd in Second Life but fall asleep at the wheel when it comes to Djing to people who they cannot see. We realize some people are attention
and admiration whores, so if you fit this description, radiomaxx.net is probably not the right venue for you. We do have a small tavern from which we hold a few events. And DJs are welcome to broadcast from any location of their choosing within SL provided they are enthusiastic about and promote the station.

Second Life is currently awash with DJs. Anyone with a microphone and a few MP3s tends to believe that God has suddenly and magically gifted them with the ability to DJ. We know better. We seek people with wit and personality.

So, having read all this, if you're still interested in broadcasting with us, and:

(1) You have SAM or similar broadcasting equipment.

(2) a GOOD knowledge of rock

(3) an outgoing personality

(4) A healthy collection of MP3s and the ability to handle requests.

This must be the first job ad giving me more reasons to NOT apply than it actually gives reasons to apply.
I'm extremely curious if anyone actually do apply after having read this weird mambo-jambo about your rules and your prejudice.

I look forward to hearing how this turns out for you. Please keep us posted, this is gonna be hillarious. Thank you.

The Military should not use this as an example to incur recruits.

Simple, his standpoint is that most SL DJ's are not as good as professional DJ's or some of those in more demanding situations off SL. That should be pretty evident from listening to DJ's in game for a while. I've heard some pretty horrible ones in here, and a "few" good ones. He's also right that everyone that picks up a mike in SL "thinks" they're a DJ.

Some days I feel like charging for translating english into english.

Its actually not that I don't get it...I just don't agree that its a sign of intellectual power to tell people to kill themself. Even if they should think that say Britney is rock music.

My point is that I would never work for a guy that thinks it its more important to state his view on other people's music than telling me about the job. Tell me what hours I should work, whats the pay...will I join a group, will I get to make my own shows etc. etc. But then again, they would probably not hire me either. I don't drink enough and I once listened to Justin on the radio without shooting myself.

Well, true...you know the first time I read it, it was kind of amusing...now that you mention it though, it is a bit over the top.

I was interested until I read it all

I have DJ'd for an internet radio station BEFORE I ever came to SL and I have DJ;d in SL

I must say both ways have their ups and downs, and both were enjoyable

and I am by no means a professional DJ

but it would have been nice to know if there was any kind of pay, and if so, how much

after all when one expects professionalism, one should also expect to pay for it

I must state that Maxx definitely is spot on about the acclaimed "DJ" title in SecondLife. I guess in a way, its good to see some brutal honesty about how it is in the game. And no.. I am not sorry for agreeing with that. I must state that the majority of people who do "DJ" in SecondLife.. do it merely for attention. Have some class folks.. if you want to get on air do it for yourself and to have fun.. don't do it because you are a narcissistic human being.

Oh and please dont jump on the bandwagon of sheep.. that go "OMG Cirga says EVERYONE is crappy in SL!" Be objective and remember that generalizations do not pertain to everyone. If you are one of the narcissists, you know who you are.

Cheers!

Wow. I didn't know my post would spur such emotionally-charged replies. There was some sarcasm in my post, though it went overlooked. I was not intentionally trying to insult anyone personally, so my appologies if anyone felt personally offended.

Maxx was using some sarcasm there to make a point..we weren't actually suggesting anyone put a gun to their heads. I suppose we thought it went wthout saying.

As for specifics, I think we felt we could discuss all that with anyone who was interested after reading the ad.

And yes, there have been many folks apply for those of you that were wondering how it turned out for us.

Have a groovy day

Hi!

I was merely stating that people who think that Britney, Justin or Beyonce are Rock have a warped sense of reality. I wasn't criticizing anyone's taste in music. I listen to some of their music too, I just don't broadcast it over our station.

Cheers!

Hey! Are you guys a club?!?
08-20-2007 05:18
I'm sorry, Maxx, but you're letting peeps off too lightly. They shouldn't pull the trigger if they think justin, britney and beyonce are rock stars. Said trigger should be pulled if they've ever even owned one of their songs. The gun doesn't have to be pointed at the head, but it should at least be close enough to the ear to make their deafness permanent!

By the way, can you give me a LM to your club?
