THE UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS SECOND LIFE CAMPUS (UASLC) PROJECT NEEDS RESIDENTS TO HELP CREATE CONTENT FOR A VIRTUAL AVENUE OF THE ARTS IN PHILADELPHIA, PA
The University of the Arts is the first and only university in the United States solely dedicated to educating creative individuals in the visual, performing and communication arts. The College of Media and Communication (CMAC) has proposed an initiative to create an experimental creative space emulating the Avenue of the Arts in Center City, Philadelphia, where the UArts campus is located. The project will consist of two parts:
1. The physical development of the Avenue and its important buildings (The University of the Arts campus buildings, The Merriam Theater, Kimmel Performing Arts Center, etc.) which will evolve as projects materialize. Check out the attached image of what we've already done.
2. The development of experimental projects that take advantage of 2nd Life capabilities directed to the following areas:
* SL as a forum intended to distribute information to new audiences
* SL as a creative medium that allows for the creation/innovation of new forms of expression that depends upon and exist solely within SL
* SL as an educational environment, perhaps for distance learning
* SL as an informative environment that reresents both the University of the Arts and perhaps Philadelphia itself
* SL used as a space to model physical objects that might later be built in RL
In other words, we are looking for the best interactive innovations that Second Lifer's can offer which would be relevant on a virtual art college campus.
For example:
* scripted performance art/theatrical/dance for individual and/or multiple avatars
* functional sculptures, kinetic art; sculpture that could never exist in RL
* a perpetually viewable musical performance
* interactive installation art
* what else can you come up with that would be cool?
We invite all Second Life Residents to contribute to this collaborative, creative, and experimental University project, specifically in part 2. In return for your participation, we can offer you promotion and visibility (maintain all creative credit/applicable in-world copyrights), networking with a creative, professional community as well as financial support.
If you’re interested or have any questions, please submit project ideas with the aforementioned criteria in mind, to Kim Thomas at kthomas@uarts.edu. Please try to keep your initial submission concise (2-3 paragraphs) and provide us with any links to your land, SL art, websites or any other outlet of your creativity.
Whatever you can think of, we'd love to hear about it, so please don't be shy. Can't wait to hear from you all. Thanks!
