The Lindens rolled out the much-discussed SL Enterprise software license this week, "SL-in-a-box" for $55,000 for enterprises to have a behind-the-firewall solution for virtuality in business.

Is SL ready for prime time in the business world?

But along with this exciting development LL disappointed and angered many by also creating the concept of a special SL Work Marketplace where only Gold Service Providers and Recommended Applications Providers, a very elite group, get to sell their creations and services to the elite enterprise customers. While some opportunity for regular merchants is being promised down the line, the plans really are not clear. The reasons invoked are technical; but they are also political and economical.

Can this program be opened up more? Will there be interest in SLE among businesses anyway?
