At my club Grizzy's Cafe, this coming Thursday tentatively - if not then, soon after.. a different type of event that will require homework and a little bravery on your part. I will be having an event where I ask everyone to come as another race and/or gender than they normally represent themselves in SL. Though not required, this will work best if you spend at least a day or 2 before hand as that av so that we can discuss the experience together as we dance to the usual Grizzy's Cafe music.
As a male who uses an female avatar in SL, I have found it extremely interesting to see the ways that women are treated differently (both postively and negatively) than men and the different expectations for them that society has. That is why I use the avatar that I do. A large part of why Second Life is interesting to me because it is a different experience than rl and at least superficially on the outside that includes who I am.
I thought you might find it interesting as well only perhaps on a more temporary basis. So during this event, while we still dance as we normally would, we can talk about this experience together. Since I have already changed gender in SL, I will be using an African American avatar temporarily. I suggest the Gnubie Store, Yadni's Junkyard and the Free Dove as some stores that will be good places to find clothes, skin, and hair and also for any of you guys who will be gender swapping, I have some freebie stuff I can give you if need be..
I think this event will either be highly popular or a complete flop, so we will see. If you have any questions feel free to IM me. or join the Grizzy's Cafe group for further announcements.
