Linden Lab will sponsor a Second Life memorial day, a Day of Remembrance (DoR,) on April 17 from 6am to 11pm SLT. The day is meant to give residents the opportunity to celebrate the lives of those once a part of SL who are now deceased.

The DoR is centered around the New Orleans tradition of the Jazz Funeral and the Second Line. Rather than a sad, solemn affair, a New Orleans funeral celebrates life with music and parading.

Parades are scheduled for 6am, 11am, 5pm, and 11pm SLT, giving residents in every time zone the opportunity to partake. The parade will depart from the landing point in Big Easy. Participants can select to twirl parasols, play musical instruments or carry pictures as they meander through the sim, ending the caravan near the sim border.

The day is also jam packed with a variety of DJs, live music and other acts. DJ HarleyMC Homewood will start the day off at 12 midnight, then DJ Gaidion Priestman will take the stream at 1am. DJ sarcophilus will pick up the mic at 2am and entertain the crowd until 4am, when live musician Junivers Stockholm will take over at 5am.

DJ Zeenat Mumfuzz will spin tunes during the first parade at 6am SLT for those who wish to listen to the stream instead of the in-world instruments. Mumfuzz will then be followed by live musician Greennote Freenote at 7am, DJ Ricken Flow at 8am, Kourosh Eusebio at 9am and live singer Jaynine Scarborough at 10am.

Another parade winds its way through Biloxi at 11am, followed by music by foxyflwr Cure at 12 noon. Live musician Mak Marjeta will carry the stream starting at 1pm, with the live act ChangHigh Trinity Sister Fireshow of Light, Life and Love performing at 2pm.

Pianist Kipling Writer will entertain the crowd at 3pm SLT, and musician Lonnie Knight will take over at 4pm. DJ Jaysen Katscher will provide the music during the parade at 5pm, and vocalist Winston Ackland will grab the mic at 6pm SLT.

Live musician Kaklick Martin is slated for the 7 o’clock hour, and DJ Madame Maracas of RadioRadio will share her extensive collection of jazz tunes from 8 to 11pm, when the final parade will start. DJ Sean Clancy will provide the music during that parade.

Various memorials allow residents to bid farewell to those they’ve loved and lost in SL. One such memorial will donate funds to American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. A pile of prim building materials litters the ground.

Those who wish to participate should simply click on a prim in that pile. Once a donation is made, that prim will fly into position in the temple. All donations go straight to Relay for Life, to help fight cancer.

The Interactive Memorial Garden gives residents the opportunity to plant flowers in remembrance of the SL friends who have died in their first lives. To plant a flower, residents just click on one of the grey memorial signs.

A choice of orange poppy, red corncockle, pink day lily or purple orchid will then be offered. After a selection is made, the avatar name of the deceased should be typed in open chat.

The Interactive Memorial Temple allows residents a place to honor those lost to them. Benches are provided for those who wish to sit and watch as flower candles fly up in the sky. Those who wish to light their own candles should simply type in: /111 NameHere. A candle will be added to the pond, eventually floating up into the sky.

As of press time, other attractions are planned but currently unfinished. For more information, visit http://sites.google.com/a/dustylinden.com/info-day-of-remembrance/Home
