The Foundation for Rich Content, a pretty long-standing granting organization in SL, is meeting today at 1pm SL time to discuss the issue of its future. Central to this discussion will be if the FFRC can or should grow beyond its present dimension. Should the Foundation for Rich Content try to garner tax-exempt status in the U.S. by pursuing 501(c)3 status?
Should the FFRC become involved in land granting? Before any of this can happen we need more members and more officers who are able to come to meetings (once per month) and carry out small tasks such as following up with projects to which we've granted assistance. At present only one officer is able to attend meetings. We need more officers and to do that we may need to change a policy and establish policies that promote officer recruitment.
The Foundation For Rich Content began not long after the Linden Events Funding ceased. At that time, the Linden grants of $750 would allow $500 to be given as prizes and $250 to remain with the event host for an event. Also the Lindens funded education at the rate of $500 per class. The FFRC was established to try to encourage rich content to maintain a well-rounded resident experience in Second Life and began by offering grants of $2,000. Later, grant sizes grew to $25,000 and $50,000. But we are at a precipice. It is time to give consideration to the organization and decide if we continue or if we do not and that will largely depend on interest levels of the public.
Come by and lend your thoughts or send me a notecard titled "FFRC Future" if you'd like to take part in this discussion.
(Hope I put this in the right forum. I put this here because the Foundation For Rich Content has been doing work to support events and events hosts for the last couple of years.)
