Chichen Itza, Mexico has been proclaimed one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

A simultaneous voting campaign in Second Life from the Virtual Mexico sim offered support to the campaign to name Chichen Itza a New World Wonder. Now as the world celebrates, you can visit the replica of this archaeological masterpiece at the Visit Mexico Sim (198, 68, 38) and experience the Equinox virtually beginning on Thursday, July 12th 2007. Each day from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (SLT/PDT) thereafter, the shadow serpent will make its way across the virtual recreation of the great Pyramid of Kukulcán.

An Equinox kick-off celebration will begin at 5:00 p.m. SLT/PDT on 7/12/07 and will feature a live music showcase. Second Life favorite Maximillion Kleene will kick off the event from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Max will be immediately followed by the incredible Spence Wilder at 7:00 p.m. and finally the exceptional Fflewddur Llanfair will wrap the event up with a set beginning at 8.

The equinox event has been scripted by noted scripter and Second Life resident Kaiser Bogomil specifically for Visit Mexico. From the base of the pyramid you will be able to view the shadow serpent make its way across the great pyramid. To best view the Equinox, from your panel choose WORLD>FORCE SUN and set your view at “Noon” or “Sunset”.

In our real world, the Equinox is a natural phenomenon of light and shadows which is projected upon the great Pyramid of Kukulcán reflecting a shadow serpent descending the main staircase. Using stone as their "hardware," the great Maya astronomers programmed their pyramid to display the descending shadow serpent. This shadow is said to reflect the relationship of the earth and its people to the sun and stars.

Visit Mexico - Chichen Itza Archaeological Site is sponsored by the Mexican Tourism Board.
