CUSO Dance for the World Fundraising Event (D4TW)
Who?
CUSO is a Canadian volunteer agency. We send Canadian volunteers overseas to work with community partners on projects that involve AIDS awareness, poverty reduction, social justice, and environmental awareness- issues that affect everyone.
We are raising money for a new seed fund that will allow these volunteers to have the tools and materials they need to complete their projects. We have about 200 volunteers overseas right now in regions like Africa, Asia Pacific, the Americas, the Caribbean, and Canada. We've been around since 1961 and have sent almost 11,000 volunteers since then.
What?
Dance for the World (D4TW) in Secondlife will be a grand party with great music, great prizes, and a silent auction. The event is - in essence - just a dance party, but your avatar is asked to dance, jump around and be 'present' for at least one hour during the day of November 9, 2007.
When?
D4TW will take place in Secondlife all day on Friday, November 9th 2007. Simultaneously, D4TW will take place in the real world at 3 official locations: Charlottetown, Ottawa, and Calgary.
Where?
Location is still to be determined, and ideally, we are looking for an entire PG sim on which to hold the event.
How?
Residents can virtually collect pledges for dancing (just as you would in real life) by collecting L$ in advance from friends and colleagues and then handing in the total (along with a pledge sheet note card) at the event itself. You can register or make donations online at www.dancefortheworld.ca. Waive the registration fee as there is no cost for those of you participating virtually
You do NOT have to put your real life information when you register online. Simply use a virtual address like the name of your home sim or the Metaverse Messenger office in Sido. Also, waive the registration fee, as there is no cost for those of you participating virtually. However, we do ask for an email address in order to contact you and to let us know who is participating in the event. For more information, IM Rubianne Ellison or Phedre Dumouriez in world. You can also e-mail Rubianne at RubianneEllison@gmail.com.
At this time, we are also looking for sponsors to support our event with cash or prizes.
Thanks in advance, and we look forward to seeing you at the event.
