Nobel peace laureate President Obama is authorizing 30,000 more troops to fight in Afghanistan, amid criticism from Congress and allies. Is this new surge justified and can it work? Is there a viable way to wind down the war in Afghanistan? Already 1,449 Coalition soldiers have given their lives fighting the Afghan war, and nearly 1,200 Afghan civilians have been killed, 70 percent of them by the Taliban and 30 percent by government and NATO forces. Scores of UN personnel and humanitarian relief workers and journalists have been kidnapped and murdered. Will this modern version of the Great Game played disastrously by the British and Russians in the past have any different outcome? Come and discuss the war and find resources to study the issues.
