Unión Fenosa launches BosqueVirtual.com. Plant your own tree in Second Life.



Union Fenosa, The 3thd largest electricity company in Spain have launch BosqueVirtual.com –Virtual Forest-, a project focus on improve the environmental education of citizens and achieve, with their participation, donate until 100.000 euros (about 145.000 USD) to the ONG Accionnatura to reforest the Amazonia tropical forest.



BosqueVirtual.com invite to the users to fulfil a survey about the energetic use behaviour and achieve the 100.000 euros figure to be donated. When the users end the survey obligate to Union Fenosa to donate 1 Euro and plants a half virtual tree in Second Life. Why just half tree? Because with the knowledge learning with the survey the user will be able to consume less energy and avoid the emission of 48 kgm CO2 per year, the half of the amount that a tree can fix.



The target is to achieve 100.000 participants and Union Fenosa has acquired 4 islands to plant the trees of the first stage of the project. In the heart of these 4 islands there is a bioclimatical house where the users can learn how to use the energy at home in a very efficient way.



The campaign is based in 4 main components:



· The Survey to teach how to use energy in an efficient way and obligate to donate 1 Euro

· The participation of other blogs and sites. Every time that another page speaks about the project, another 5 euros are donated.

· The symbolic reforestation in Second Life where every two users a tree is created. The tree is identify with both names and can be located with a tool in the web site.

· The bioclimatical house



In just 24 hours almost 3.000 people and more than 40 blogs have participated.
