You must have looked at it before the setup was complete. The sim is being rented for this event, and only the center of the sim matters. There is currently no land for sale there. There are some buildings outside the memorial, but that is *outside* the memorial.

Visit there first.

I see no issue here. The World Trade Center was a place of commerce. Plenty of commercial activity took place. The new one, when completed, will be the same.

Plenty of slaves died in ancient Rome but I wouldn't have an issue with commercial activity around a replica of the coliseum. Sure, the WTC is more recent but it's been 6 years. We sure never forget but we also should move on.

I went to the memorial there today, the build is very nice so far, and people running it were very kind and supportive. They helped people find names on the wall very quickly, and ejected loudmouths.

I wouldn't suppose Anyday would be a good day. If the intention of the sim is as a memorial.. then it's a bit like building a McDonalds on the edge of a graveyard. If on the other hand its intention it to symbolise trade and commerce, then thats the direction it should go.
I don't imagine they shut down all trade within a 50 mile radius of the original trade buildings, perhaps trade suffered for a long time. But to imortalise the memory of the trade centers, trade must be seen to flourish, otherwise the demise of the very reason/status that those building stood for, will have only meant that, by their destruction it was successful to those that carried out the act.

I live in the UK... despite the massive destruction of our towns and cities during the second world war and by the terrorist activities since and before.. there are few, if any signs remaining. The same is true for the vast majority of countries involved in the various wars throughout history. Your ability to prevail, is a sign of your resiliance and determination. Personally, I believe the American Nation should rebuild a Trade Center of an even bigger stature, to show those that would attack the very core of your nation, that you are in defiance of their tyrany. Build it on the foundations of the old site, so the memories of your fallen can rise up and and stand before the rest of the world. But that's just my opinion.

Absolutely. The biggest obscenity in this whole obscenity is that 6 years later it is still a hole in the ground, thanks to red tape, posturing, and political infighting. And that is unacceptable.

To much surprise the area around the World Trade Center has rebounded and is thriving. Major retailers are moving in and many are moving into expensive apartments.

The new WTC is planned to be bigger and better than area. It's taking awhile to get built but the plans are nearly as you described.

I watched breifly a programme about the rejuvination of the world trade center.. one proposal resembled the tops of fallen buildings sticking out of the ground. I was appalled that it was even considered. I can only imagine it was some 'arty' type designer wishing to imortalise himself, although I suspect the true American people would not have allowed that 'sculputer' to even get past planning.

I would have hoped that before the soldiers finally pull out of Iraq, the Trade Center would have been rebuilt and become the status it was before war was declared, or indeed a GREATER status. Before long, the will to rebuilt it will be gone and it will simply become a memorial park, complete with its own Tourist Center and a handy McDonalds, picture postcards with before and after shots being sold.

The plan of the nation should be, to rebuild that symbol of your nation and officially open it on 9/11. That day will go down in history for more than one reason. Perhaps the creators in Second Life can lead the way?
