**Do I need a premium account to buy this land?
Yes, you do. But premium accounts are not as expensive as you may think. See the reasons why below.
**Why having a premium account is a bargain
It’s true that you must pay for a premium account. It’s $9.95 USD per month, but if you pay the fee one year in advance, it’s only $72.00 USD for the year. That’s $6.00 USD per month, a 40% discount.
If you have a premium account, you get a weekly stipend of $L300 per week. That’s every week. 52 weeks per year. $L300 is worth about $1.06 USD as of this writing. That’s $55.12 cents per year! Now you’ve paid only about $17.00 USD per year for a premium account if you subtract that weekly stipend from the $72.00 USD you paid for the year.
And there’s more. Having a premium account means you can buy land on the mainland. That’s a real advantage. If you study the land market, you can make money buying and selling land. One good sale is all it takes to pay off that remaining $17.00 USD you paid for premium.
And…Premium account holders get upgraded customer service. When you need it, believe me, it’s important.
And…at least as of now…there’s a $L1000 bonus when you become premium. That’s about $3.50 USD right now. No big deal, but it further reduces your cost of being premium. Basically, it now costs you a bit over $1.00 USD per month to be premium and get the land buying and support advantages if you follow the procedures above. If you can sell some land profitably, you’ll MAKE MONEY.
**Are there advantages to owning mainland land?
You bet. The biggest is that YOU own the land and pay tier directly to LL. There is no chance that an owner you are renting from (and make no mistake, if you don’t pay tier to LL, you don’t own the land) will just abandon the land or fall behind with LL and leave you, the renter (you’re not really an owner, even if you have re-sale rights) with nothing. It’s happened to me. I rented some land on a voidsim, paid for weeks in advance and one day, the sim was sold. Refunds were promised by the previous owner, but, of course, that never happened.
You also have absolute complete rights for the mainland land you own. NO covenant of any kind. YOU make the rules, YOU divide the land, etc., etc.
**What about voidsims or open space sims?
LL is planning to increase the rent to owners of voidsims by 66% as of January 1. Land prices on the mainland are already climbing as a result. Any land you buy on voidsims is not truly yours anyway. Even if you have resale rights, if you're not paying tier to LL, you don't really own it.
Good time to buy mainland land parcels. Prices already on the rise!!
